I think it's pretty well accepted now that NOT all calories are created equally and different macros have different hormonal affects.

However, the debate I still see is from the idiots arguing that calories don't matter, for example you can eat as many protein and fat grams as you want and you won't gain fat as long as you don't eat carbs. These guys don't believe in energy balance and the need to be in a caloric deficit for weight loss.

I would never say calories don't matter but I do think some diets have guidelines that you don't have to keep track of calories. Of course these diets are based on getting people down to body fat percentages that are considered normal. Bodybuilders should keep track of calories and macros to continually tweak their diet to get ultra lean.
