View Full Version : Anthony Johnson Comes In 12 Overweight For UFC 142
Johnson moved up to middleweight for this fight against Belfort. He walks around at 215 and claimed he could easily make 185 since he had made 170 in the past.He weighed in at 197,and Belfort is expected to accept the fight.

I could be mistaken but doesn't he have until 6 hrs before the fight to make weight....not a big deal though if Belfort accepted the match.
How would they find a replacement in six hours?48 hrs before approx IIRC.I guess we will find out if 12 lbs is a big deal or not tonight.

I read that there was some sort of medical issue preventing him from making weight but haven't looked much more into it. vitor said he'd still accept the fight IF Johnson wasnt more than 205 at 2pm today. I guess we'll find out more in a few hours!
Johnson is not allowed to weigh more than 205 on fight day.Medical issues?Yeah,I guess you would feel like crap cutting that in the last few day.Likely includes a power vac up his butt.

I'd think it would be more than just feeling like crap if they announced an "issue" :-) regardless, when you come in 11lbs over, SOMETHING screwy happened. I doubt he just forgot to cut. I know this has been a problem but has her ever come in THIS over before? having said all that, i know dana is pissed right off. I wouldnt be shocked if this was his last ufc fight for a while!
He also loses 20% of his purse.
Not to mention Belfort will prob be 215 by the time the fight happens and since Johnson can't gain weight he is not going to feel very strong.
The thing I don't understand is why almost every fighter does it. If these guys walk around at 215 why cut to 185 ? Why not fight at 205 ? Goes for all weight classes.

This weight class stuff is stupid. The dehydrating is probably one of the most unhealthy things these guys do. They should just adjust the weight classes and have them weigh in right before they fight. If they want to fight dehydrated and feel and perform like crap then let em but there will be no advantage.
This seems to have developed into a real science to cut weight, naturally 10 lbs heavier than the other guy is still 10 lbs.I can think of dropping all carbs, colonic flush, limiting water, who knows what else.Low bodyfat to start with of course.
It can work well or it can work against an athlete. Dropping the weight is only 50% of it. Putting it back on without getting sick can be another challenge in it's own.
I did a 20lb cut over night and I can say I never want to go through that again. I did come in and break every PR though :)

Watched the fight and the heel kick was by far the best part of the card.
I missed the fights, anybody have comment on whether it was an unjustified standup in the Belfort Johnson fight?

Looked fine to me...not much was happening on the ground...ive seen other fights that they let go like this but its not like it was really making a difference.

I would bet Johnson doesn't get a chance to pull this nonsense again.I think he will get what he deserves....which is to fight guys his own size.I say Dana makes him move up to 205.

Cog I think he's cut already. Dana is super pissed. He said 3 strikes and you're out.
