I built up a whole bundle of free cash from the CP.com referral program (thanks guys!) so I cashed it in on my own pre workout cocktail that I plan to mix with the following:

BCAA - 10g
L Carnitine - 5g
Tyrosine - 5g
Beta Alanine - 5g
AAKG - 5g
Crystal lite / Stevia (whatever I can get my hands on that is cost effective cause this is gonna taste like shit otherwise)

I take my creatine in my tea every morning so I figure no need to add any extra in the mix. Im gonna down half of this just before the workout, and the other half during.

I will post some feedback on my results. Im expecting big gains because I havnt lifted any upper body in 6 weeks so Im hoping this speeds up recovery and endurance during my transition back to lifting.

Not critiquing, but wondering why you don't have Glutamine in it ?

my budget for supps is pretty low. All this stuff was basically free so Im keeping it to what I have used that works for me. I have used glutamine on many, many occasions and Im sure its doing something, on some level, but I just dont think its worth the money in terms of cost / benefit ratio.

Following the advice of Will Brink and a couple other vets on this board I think I have all my bases covered in this shake. Once you start throwing in the kitchen sink it no longer becomes that cost effective, and is a real pain in the ass to prepare.

Thanks for the feedback though.

On a side note. I got some delicious flavoured white teas for christmas and I have been using them to mask the flavour of the drink and they are doing a decent job of it. Its not delicious by any means but it is more than tolerable for sure.

This will boost the anti oxidant value of the shake and make it relatively enjoyable to consume. Just a thought for those out there that are looking for a sweetener alternative.

White tea contains about 10x the anti odixants of green tea :)

I find organic lemon juice covers up any taste of the bulk supp powders nicely. And it tastes not bad.

I agree with TT Eric, but overall its a good pre workout shake

When I started to notice a real difference from glutamine was when i took 30-45g a day. That dose is simply not affordable for me at all on my student budget. Its a decent supplement when taken in those doses in my opinion, but way out of range for me at the moment.

I also remember hearing something about glutamine and arginine should not be taken together as they somehow diminish the effect of one another. Im not sure how or why, but I do recall hearing this from more than one source. The cardiovascular benefits from the arginine make it worthwhile to take just on that fact, but I find it also increases pump somewhat, especially on my new shorter rest interval training style. I get very vascular and veiny from the increased blood flow and low body fat. It looks cool :)

I don't know much about Tyrosine , but your mix looks alright to me.

I had some money from CP too and this is what i got.

2lbs - BCAA's
2lbs - Glutamine
1lb taurine
200g GABA
6 tubs of Xtend.

I will just take 2-4 scoops of xtend and then add in more glutamine and bcaa's along with taurine. I figured this will help cut cost and make everything last much longer , plus no need to spend money on crystal light - the amount you will spend ( a month ) on crystal light will buy you a jug of xtend at CP prices.

^^ Thats a good idea dude to add in the extend. I cant really say that its the same price as crystal lite but its not too bad if you only use one scoop per serving I suppose. A months worth of crystal lite packs is only $10

Will Brink has a good vid on his pre workout shake and he talks about Tyrosine in the vid. Google it, its a very useful amino, especially for power lifters and bodybuilders. Pretty cheap too per serving.

Tyrosine helps with neurotransmitters and thyroid...PL train much more intensely then BB's ie low reps which puts alot more stress on the CNS. Good cocktail 8...glutamine will not do much except maybe help with gut health...anabolic wise nada.

Maybe next time I'll add that in.

Haven't really been training too hard lately :)

you could also add a carb powder to your pre-workout (a waxy blend or plain simple carbs)..just a thought. and it's pretty cheap as well
