View Full Version : Pain Killer side effects
I have been taking several percocet a day for the last few days in order to manage the pain and discomfort from this separated shoulder and I have noticed a few things happen already. I seem to have taken on a full upper body bloat and any and all muscle tone I had during this bulk has completely disappeared. I have basically gone from being a relatively fit looking dude around 240lb to looking like I havnt worked out at all in the last 5-6 months in about 4 days.
Has anyone else experienced these side effects from pain killers? I have restricted my diet due to drastically reduced calorie requirements and still I continue to bloat. It is rather disheartening. Any thoughts / comments?

Start doing a ton of cardio if you cant lift at all, otherwise your bulk will just become fat.

If I don't train for 4-5 days I don't see the size, striations, vascularity. Don't worry..remember the phrase..."MUSCLE HAS MEMORY"?
get back to lifting once injury is better..keep eating clean and in no time you'll be happy with your gains.
I broke a rib in 07..painful as hell..I didnt look like a bodybuilder at all in a few months.... Once healed I was glad I didnt let my depression get the best of me..I ate clean...did what bodyparts I could and it paid off...MUSCLE HAS MEMORY.

Maintain your legs and especially core, should be able to work out both those areas without straining the injury.
i can barely move around at all without being in a good amount of pain. no chance can i do leg workouts for at least a week if not more. what i dont understand is why everything vanished within only a few days of sleeping all day on pain killers. at first it was so brutal to move at all that i just lay in bed and ate 3 huge meals to get a decent amount of cals in but now i can handle it a bit better and im adjusting. the doc was not specific at all as to what kind of separation i have so i am in the process of following up with a sports doc for a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. i swear if i took before and after shots of my torso, one would have thought that 4 weeks if not more had passed of binge drinking and not training but the transformation only took about 4 days. im not exaggerating. im wondering if the "var" im using is actually something else and is causing me to blow up.....
i think im gonna hit the cardio hard just for something to do because im gonna lose my mind if all i do is study and be snowed in for the next 6 weeks or more.

Stop the var if you suspect its messing with you. See if you notice less bloating once off. Do lots of cardio to slim down- core to stay looking fit.

Shoulder injuries are terrible to deal with. I injured my shoulder a year ago and it put me out of the gym for 3 weeks. It hurt to even walk around. I couldn't have even imagined doing any sort of cardio. I got pretty soft looking during those 3 weeks. I just kept my cals up because I was bulking at the time and I bounced back to the way I was within a week of being back in the gym.
If I were you, I wouldn't do anything that will aggravate it.. In my opinion, it's better to be out completely for a shorter amount of time than have half assed workouts for a longer period. I would also stop the var. It would be more useful when you can properly train again.

I suffered a 3rd grade separation of the ac joint about 10 years ago.
I still suffer with it and require a good 20 min of shoulder warmup.
Good luck!
