Hey Prae, any tips on lowering my pulse rate. my blood pressure is controlled with hydorochlorothiazide (i was borderline hypertensive) but every time i check the pulse rate it's anywhere from 85 bpm to 95 bpm. this has been going on for some time now...i tried jogging (i read that would help) to help lower it but ankle problem has nipped that in the butt for me, also i just started a test cycle at 500mg per week but this issue has been ongoing for some time now.
additional info
pulse rate and bp measured 10 minutes after waking 2x a week
only able get 6 hrs of sleep a night
follow keto
take only 1 caffeine pill a day before workout
no other caffeine consumed
don't drink or smoke
going to stop HCT but decided to stay on it until cycle is over
today's values were 121/70 pulse of 93
Thanks

i drink just about a gallon of water a day and no coffee. maybe an occasional diet coke a few times a week but no other caffeine or stimulants aside from that 1 caffeine pill.

Do you find you are retaining alot of water? Do you urinate frequently through the day? How much weight do you drop overnight? You are on keto right....so less than 50g trace carbs daily?

checked todays pulse today, it was 87 and 84
i think i am retaining a bit of water. i urinate often but in small amounts.
checked today....bed time weight was 217.8 - wake up after 5 1/2 hrs was 215.8 (seems like a lot so i guess i'm retaining quite a bit)
i follow keto close but don't mind if i stay around 50 - 75. not necessarily looking to lose weight, i don't like eating carbs and want to make lean gains minimizing fat.
on a side note....i eat chicken breast from the states at $2/pound usually 2x a wee and they inject it with a salt brine solution (i recall fouad abiad having a problem at one of his shows with water retention because of this) but if this is the case of my water retention, would this have any effect on pulse rate though?

did someone tell you that your "85 bpm to 95 bpm" is a problem/abnormal/tachycardia ?
have you checkd the resting heart rate of your parents/siblings ?

Sodium will cause water retention if you arent drinking enough water...4-6l daily....if you drink plenty of water your body will regulate electrolytes just fine...over night 3-5lb water loss is normal....depending on how much muscle you carry.
I would suggest in your case limiting sodium to some extent...by that i mean keeping away from sodium heavy foods...ie anything processed....use fresh chicken that is free range if possible...as well as beef, wild salmon, etc limit salting of food and use sea salt which i slower in sodium...stay away from anything canned, boxed. packaged etc
HCT is just a bandaid solution because yes it will push water out but it wil come right back because it is not addressing the problem...have you had your kidneys checked?

well, if you are already on hydrochlorothiazide, you might as well explore going adding some metoprolol.

my doctor said she wanted to keep an eye on it.....my nurse sister in law works in emerg. and said it's fine unless over 100....my mom did mention hers sometimes hits the 90's (she has no health concerns otherwise
Prae, i did have kidneys and ekg etc. checked in the summer when my pulse hit 98 and everything was fine, this is when they put me on the hct.....i will have a more controlled cheat meal on saturday and try to stay away from processed food and stick to sweet potato and some wild rice. Maybe that meal is messing me up more than i think!
thanks prisioner 22....i will research that
