I bought my hot water tank Bryant 40gal. 800 installed including tax. IMO you don't earn your investment back (around 2k installed) with a tankless. And there not exactly known for reliability. There is also yearly maintanence with tankless to avoid mineral and calcium build up. You have to run vinegar through the system to eat away the calcium. You also need a 3/4 inch feed line from your meter or its not a proper installation.
i work for a plumbing wholesaler.....tankless is the way to go.....if not go with a john wood....best tank out there....

Ours is a Rinnai R75LS (Energy Star model). We rent and it was installed when we built our house a year ago. Not really sure about savings yet. It's pretty good. There are only my wife and I in our house - no kids. I does take some time to get the water hot - you've got to run the water for a bit but you get used to it. Definitely takes up zero space in the basement.
