The use of steroids by tough guys makes it unfair for the ones who decide to remain clean. But even more than steroids, some other drugs would really make fighting even more dangerous for the clean ones like me. Substances like Ephedrine, for instance, totally desensitize the player who takes them. Before a game, as I would warm up on the ice, I would always look at the tough guy on the other side. If his arms were trembling, if his eyes were bulging, I knew for sure he wasn’t going to feel any of the punches I would give him. Totally anaesthetized, his face sweating despite the thick film of Vaseline he’d covered his face with, I knew the guy would be able to take a lot more hits than his fair share.

Man I had no idea ephedrine could turn me into some sort of super hero. I will ask my training partner to punch me in the face tomorrow as I am doing my set to see if I feel any pain after taking a few 8mg tabs.

What was that powerful cold medicine that they modified a few years back?Lots of NHL'ers were abusing that stuff.Seven or eight pills.I have seen people abuse that stuff moving snow.It's dangerous.

You don't think someone who has been in the sport, had a role that he's had, and relationships with other players, would be privy to methods that other players are using to "play" to their abilities?

I wouldn't necessarily say he's talking out his ass. Talking out your ass is what people do who are not in the know.

Naw not on anything. I'm sure most of us have tried ephedrine and by itself it didn't really do anything for me that I would correlate with blunting pain or making me tougher.

Maybe I just need to take more....
