Hi everyone. I've been contacted by Stacy of the Psychology Department at Laurentian University of Sudbury Ontario. She is writing a thesis on the Male Body Image and has asked us if we would like to take part in the study. If you would like to take part the link will be below the post. There is also a chance to win a $200 gift certificate at Bestbuy if you participate.
The study consists of an online questionnaire (on Fluidsurvey.com which is a completely safe Canadian website) that is anonymous and confidential and can be completed on any computer. The questionnaire takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and asks questions about fitness, the media, relationships and eating.

Great Great topic.....if this thread does not take off..I'll start another, being the amateur physiologist that I am. There not looking for women in this study?..sigh because how both men and women are raised determine who we are today. My day time job besides personal training is child birth coaching and breastfeeding counseling. How did I end up doing jobs with such a wide spectrum? I believe in my body! My mother was a very strong women....she till is at 86 yrs old. She has taught me to believe in my body, to push the botton and get back on my feet even when our bodies say we cant..we believe we can...so we push and succeed. My mom had a total hysterectomy at 50 some years old and went back to work running her diner business a week later. Unheard of even today to be back on your feet in less then a month.
I"m the oldest of 5...most of the younger female ones despise my good health and great physique.
Even though your not part of this study..whats your thoughts on how you were raised and how does it affect your fitness level today? VERY interesting study.
I had a step father who thought I was FAT..at 14 yrs old he called me fatty in front of my friends.. When they would call he would answer and shout out..."Fatty the phone is for you."
I had a strong mother and sick o step father.

I filled out the survey. It is done in men because it is basically part of the hypothesis. A similar survey/study was done in women already and the purpose was to look if similar trend exist among men. An interesting study, however I'd love to see how the student end's up analyzing the results. There was a lot of questions, and as a statistician, this is the type of stuff I am given to work on on a daily basis. I do realize it was only part of a 4th year thesis, but when it comes time to analyze, I have they have help of a trained statistician!!
There will be issues related to wording of the question, consistency among responses, etc. Many questions were basically the same but worded opposite. this may or may not have been done on purpose, but I hope they realize these potential issues when it comes time for analysis. Also, targetting a bodybuilding forum as a possible source of responses may actually bias the study quite a bit...depending on how many responses they get from here. For example, many of the responses filled in by 'bodybuilders' could be interpretted in a completely different way then the general population. Although, at least there was a question related to if you train for 'sport, fun, etc'.
Just realizing I am going on and on here. Guess I just haven't been given data from a survey related to my passion at work well...ever, lol.

Uhhh no correlation between psychology and physiology except for excitable cells in nerve and spinal tissue which (for lack of a better word) powers the brain.

wording of questions were purposely. Thesis at this level is done under the input of the PI as it most likely falls within his research domain but agree with you in that I'd love to see the final results.
Should be quite interesting!
