First off I will tell you a bit about me.

Im 23, been lifting 5 years, started when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Ended up getting hooked, and dont want it to stop me from my bodybuilding goals. Im currently 195lbs, 7% bf.

I thought being Insulin sensative was a good thing? But, you hear of people using lantus to have higher basal levels of insulin throught the day, which would make you more "anti-catabolic" apperently. But, is there a point where more insulin isnt going to do anymore?

Also, I thought having higher levels all day was bad, and could be fat storing?

QUESTONS:

I currently take 15 units of lantus daily, which keeps my basal sugar levels steady, then take about 30 units total of nolvalog throughout the day to match the carbs I eat. Would taking more lantus ie: 50 units help build muscle? I always thought as long as my sugars were good, than the carbs/nutrients were shuttled properly and didnt think anymore insulin would be beneficial? Maybe I am wrong???

So, simply put, Does MORE INSULIN mean more MUSCLE?

NO, it means more fat storage, more systematic inflammation, more health problems.

fit226 will be a great one to answer this question or you could always PM him. He's a type 1 as well and a bodybuilder (big dude!) and keeps a tight lock on his diabetes.

So, are you saying somebody with lower basal insulin, could obtain as much muscle as someone with higher levels? If so, why are pros using things like lantus to raise basal levels throughout the day?

I agree with you as of now, I mean, I dont see how you would benefit as it is fat storing! I was under the impression that you want LESS INSULIN to get the job done, which would lead to a "leaner physique". Maybe I am wrong?

You want better skeletal muscle insulin sensitivity, that's what you should aim for instead of using more insulin. Look up r-ALA, chromium, Cinnamon, magnesium... beware it will affect your insulin requirements so test blood and adjust accordingly.

I think its dumb to raise basal insulin levels so I can't tell you why they do it. It's probably not because they are dumb, they have insulin resistance because of big dosages of AAS, too much food intake and mostly because of HGH.

You want to get big, lift heavier weights keep progressing as much as possible as often as possible. Do the same thing in the kitchen, keep progressing to more and more food and protein, do it too fast and you will get fat, too slow and you don't grow. At this point you will have to raise insulin to match food intake.

You will get more out of testosterone then you will out of slin in my opinion.
