how did ted do?
I thought I took 6th in the masters heavy class (CBBF site shows 8th which I cant understand) I was second call out in the middle...they juggled a few people around me but they kept me front and center...which to me is 6th because the first call out was top five...cant wait to post pics. I really thought I did better as i already had beaten guys they placed ahead of me twice this year and i was much better in Montreal. Suffice to say i weighed in 227lbs and was in the best shape of my life so i am happy about that...prep went beautifully..carb up was perfect and i was very dry come Sunday morning...nothing more i could have really done except for my height i need about 10-15lbs more muscle to win.

I took 6th in the masters heavy class (over 190lbs) I really though I did better but that's BB. I will post some pics when I get them organized. Suffice to say i weighed in 227lbs and was in the best shape of my life so i am happy about that...prep went beautifully..carb up was perfect and i was very dry come Sunday morning...nothing more i could have really done except for my height i need about 10-15lbs more muscle to win.

Cant change genetics but one thing a lot of people can learn from you is your ability to do work amd get shit done. Many have the genetics but lack what you have which is what matters the most in my opinion!
Under "Women's Masters LW" :Is It "Yvette", Or "Ivette" Landry?? I've actually seen it spelled BOTH ways, when I've Googled it..

You got that right...really odd!
P
& Sylvia Burgin is actually spelled, "Bergen". Understandable errors if the poster was tired, & did this list, RIGHT after the show...

Thanks Mr. Freeze.
I'll be creating a profile for each competitor in the near future and when I do that, I have to search for competitor names and end up fixing a lot of names when I find their previous competition history.

Which ones?
Now granted I was not there in person, but from what I heard Hassan was called out in the first group then ended up 13th. From the pictures that I saw SHW winner was out muscled, but maybe he was super crisp it was hard to tell from the pics.
The light heavy weights not sure what that class looked like, but pretty much a rookie line up with the exception of Martin Allard. So, may have been a very shallow group.
Like to see more pictures to have a better idea, but again shitty ass coverage for the largest bodybuilding show in Canada!
dawn 3rd ? she could had be more crisp but my god she was in shape , had her first
andre longchamps too , lower abs swollen but still he kick ass , first
happy for alexandre raymond he always tend overdiet , this time i saw him at progym few days before n was mega full n round

I was referring to " Professional " coverage. If I was going to be a show rat I would definately take a camera with me and take pictures. Also, if you can't afford it don't go then!

I've only been to 2 nationals but i was very surprised as to what the experience was like compared to last year. Harvey last yr put on a top notch show and treated the athletes very well with an entire pump up room gym, a big oil and tanning room with experienced volunteers to help put both on, seperate dressing rooms per class, lots of runners telling us exactly when we needed to get ready wether it was tanning/oil or pumping up or when we needed to get to the stage to line up. Now this year i expected the same (naive i guess) but it was the most unorganized show i've ever been in. Athletes stacked on top of each other in the tiny backstage area. One bench and two sets of dumbells for 210 athletes. No information as to what class was on and who was on deck etc. I've been to dozens of shows and this was by far the worst experiance as an athlete. Not impressed. Couple that with inconsistent judging in some classes and announcers that spoke 80 percent french. What a joke.

Have to agree! But every time it comes back east they hold it in Montreal. Just proves its just a money maker and the athletes come second!

I explained a similar outcome in the other thread. 1st and 2nd got reversed to 4th and 1st...and even that was explainable.
assume 7 judges. Cancel high and low..
Weight Division:
Competitor A places 1st, Competitor B places 2nd
Masters:
Competitor A places 4th, Competitor B places 1st
How is this possible without judging inconsistencies.
Masters:
Judge Rank_A Rank_B
1 2 1
2 1 2
3 1 2
4 3 2
5 3 2
6 2 1
7 3 4
Weight class:
Judge Rank_A Rank_B
1 2 1
2 1 5
3 1 5
4 2 1
5 3 2
6 2 1
7 1 6
If you cancel high low, above, A will get 11 points, B will get 9 points for the masters class. If you do the same thing in the weight class example, A will have 8 point, B will have 14. Complete consistency within the judges, but a different outcome. In fact the scores are similar to what happened in Steve's case. The big part responsible for this is judge 2,3, and 7, where you see competitor B had low scores even though consistent. But how did that happen? In this example, it implies in the weight class there were extra compititors who squeezed there way in between A and B, which resulted in B score driven down relative to A in those 3 judges.
So the end result is it is possible, even when judges are not out to lunch. Whether or not this happened, would require seeing the judges score cards.
I honestly don't think that is what happened in this case, as I was looking at the scores, and the scores didn't really allow for any type of scenario like this.
I could go on and on about this, but the way the scoring system is - (ranks) it will always be possible for this to happen. The only way to avoid it would be to give scores for each competitor (say out of 100). That way close individuals get similar scores. The ranking way always assumes an equal distance between 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th...But we all know that isn't the way it goes.
I should write a paper on this someday.

Steve d,
It all depends on the number of girls in each comparison. If the top 3 girls are compared and then the next 3 are compared and that's it then there is no way that a "next 3" girl could be a "top 3" girl. I would seriously like to see the scores. I'm also pretty sure there are rules against judges who score a girl 5th when she is awarded 1st for example. There is no way they should be judging. Especially at the Nationals!
Judges are supposed to be given notice of the dual class competitors so that this thing doesn't happen. Unfortunately, it did. Were they given notice? Looks like they weren't. Pretty sad especially at the National level. I would be forwarding a complaint to Manion if it happened to me. Total joke. Really goes to show you what happens when the organization is so far removed from actually competing that they forget or don't even know what it's like to compete. The CBBF had better focus on the athletes instead of themselves or they will lose the confidence of its members.

There was lots to ponder with the judging i didnt wanna think about my class too much it was just a mystery

the NA format is best they bring out groups of 7 or 6 do the quarter turns and mandatory, then you come out each for 30 second free posing(this where you can shine) then third round call outs. It actually goes faster and gives guys a chance to present themselves especially when you trying to cram 30 guys on a stage.

My example was not for the women class. This was for a seperate class. And it was to illustrate a point to not always throw down the judges when this happens, as it can and will always happen time and time again. Sometimes for the right reason, sometimes for the wrong reason.
The top 3 girls to next 3 girls is also a great example as to why this would happen. I don't think this is what happened though in this case, but this always happens especially at the longer shows (such as nationals)...if you don't make call out your screwed. But really - how is that fair. Another flaw in the judging system...but hard to overcome due to time constraints. In a perfect world, the top competitor from the 'next 3' would be brought into the mix and at minimum compared to the last girl of the 'top 3'.
Its subjective, and that's fine. People just need to accept that it is subjective, funny things can also happen because of the system, and that it is likely the best system that we can have. Nothing is perfect

was it a short bus? :D

Have too agree that as i spectator this has been my worst experience of all shows attended. There werent even programs to tell what the hell was going on, which line-ups etc. or when intermission was - pretty confusing. And the traffic in and out of the theatre was just nuts - why only 1 entrance/exit point ? And since when do the vip rows get filled up with a supporters club ? When Fabiola came on goodluck trying to see the stage if you were seated behind row 5. At $75 a ticket Montreal was a disgrace !!
