It's gone up quite a bit in less than 6 months. Whey concentrate is 6.5$/lb now, but realistically 7.5$ once you add the flavor. What's up here? Considering that's more expensive than costco whey ISOLATE even before shipping, how do you expect to stay competitive?

Well I always have purchased from TP. It used to be more expensive even then but it's kind of at an absurd level right now.
It's not about being cheap, just smart with my money :)

Protein prices have just gone up. Prices all around should be going up soon.

We'll have to see, but I doubt the costco protein will see a 30% price increase.

they use it as a loss leader to bump up sales. Its not something are the core of their business but adds to the revenue bottomline.
All these stores do the same thing. Walmart is remarkable in how many products they either take a loss or break even on.
A company like TP or others, I doubt can do that on a regular basis.

so many companies do this!!! it really makes the rest of us look like we rip customers off, which is so far from the truth.

u can expect protein to keep going up though. as the chinese and other big north american companies (ie. pepsi, coke) are buying up all the stock.
the sports industry is 2nd in line to get whey protein, not first.
sucks, but what can ya do.

Nate is has a great point, this is often the case with the other major retailers. Here at True Protein, we offer the absolute lowest costs possible for each of our raw materials, but with that comes rock-bottom margins. During times of drought in the protein industry, our costs skyrocket and we must increase prices in order to stay in business. Many large manufacturers have much higher profit margins that allow them to absorb more of the cost without taking a loss and still offer the same pricing until the market levels. When you purchase from True Protein, you see all of your direct costs upfront, and can tell exactly how much of your final total is legitimately going to the cost of shipping and what is going to the cost of the ingredients (many other retailers will build the shipping costs into the product to offer flat rate shipping).
As soon as prices drop in the industry, we are also the first to see a decrease in raw material cost.

It's not a loss leader for Costco. They work on a 14% margin. Supplement stores work on 40-50% margins. Also, Costco charges you $50 membership fee. I'm certain some stores would drop their protein prices by decreasing their margins if you paid them a $50 membership fee to shop at their store.
