March 31st of 2012 will be the 1st Quebec Open Championships by the APQ. This championship will unite the regional championships; Quebec de l'Est, Quebec de l'Ouest, and the André Maillé Classic and they will no longer exist. This will be the competition to qualify for the APQ Quebec Provincial Championships.

I think that's such a bad decision... One competition previous to the provincials. I doubt competitors will bring their families to Montreal to get some support.

I also hate this decision but I understand it will significantly cut down on the shows they need to prepare in a year. Not good for competitors but easier for the federation. I really liked competing locally and having my friends and family come and watch.

So, let me get this straight...In order to do the provincials, you have to do the open. So how is the provincials any different from the open other than only the top 3 (or 5) from the open are allowed to go? The way I see it, is if you are not going to pyramid the show previous to provincials, it simply won't make sene.
Y need 1 provincial show, and qualifiers would therefore have to be divided into regions of 2 or more. This essentially makes two provincial shows. May as well just have the provincials only, with no qualifiers for provincials.

The crazy thing is that everyone that does the regional show is then allowed at the provincials, not just the top 3 or 5, everyone.. lol

It sounds to me like they're saying that there will only be one regional level show in Quebec which will qualify you for Provincials. hmmm sounds like an easy provincials to me.

A much harder regional show though, you have all the guys who used to compete in 3 shows combined in one show, tons of guys in every class. The middles and Light-Heavy's will be insanely big classes.

you're kidding right!! So all this is, is 1 show - called provincials. Except its divided into a pre-pre judging, which doesn't count for your score, and happends to take place months before the real show. Then the real show...but you have to show up to pre-pre judging to do the real show.
This is dumb on so many levels. I wonder how many people will just show up out of shape, so that they can do the provincials...Ex. if it were me, and open were 8 weeks before provincials, i would do the open in 8 week out shape.

Nope I am not kidding. I really like your example of calling it a pre-pre-judging. It's also pretty shitty that it's march 31st which is pretty damn early in the season.
