The elite bodybuilding championships is an under and over 202 class with overall getting procard. Nationals is weight classes with overall getting procard. Elite is more difficult to qualify for..(top 3 at nationals the year or two prior and all past class winners at Nationals)

Only top national level bodybuilders (winners) of previous years will be eligible for the elite division. Here was an announcement for the 2011 show

The CBBF has authorized the presentation of a men’s IFBB Pro Card to the overall winner of the 2011 Men’s Elite Bodybuilding Championships being held in conjunction with the 2011 Canadian Fitness, Figure and Bikini Championships July 23rd in Saskatoon. There will be 2 classes available to enter, Under 202 and Over 202, with the overall champion getting his IFBB Pro Card. This is going to be a unique event for Canadian amateur bodybuilding and promises to be very exciting. The field will be exclusive and only the top bodybuilders in Canada will be invited and eligible to compete.

The men's elite competition is new for 2011. The top Canadian national bodybuilders from previous years have received invites to compete against each other in this exclusive event.

Directly from the CBBF President Mark Smishek

The Elite Division in 2011, which took place at the Bik/Fig/Fit event was
for two classes, Up to 202 lbs and Over 202 lbs.
It was open to past national winners, only.
The Elite Division in 2012 qualifications has yet to be determined.

For those that have inquired about the Physique Division, here is the response.

We will be judging at the N.A.'s Championships, next weekend, in Cleveland,
Ohio, the Physique Division.
Will determine at the N.A.'s whether to add to our 2012 events.

So Physique Division is a possibility for 2012. I figure if it has a good turnout in at the North American's, it would be logical to include it in the CBBF.
As for the Elite division, qualification is still undecided, but the timing of the events is MUCH MUCH BETTER this year so it should have a good turnout.

So the non elite men's contest; will pro cards be awarded there still? Or is that a stepping stone to get to elite level in order to earn pro card?

Thank you.

Oh no, the regular CBBF Bodybuilding Nationals on the 18th will still have pro cards awarded. The elite division this year was an EXTRA pro card awarded.

I think we will see the physique division in Canada very shortly.
Totally agree with the timing of the elite show, MUCH MUCH BETTER is an understatement.
Looks like we'll be travelling to Edmonton for sure and possibly even BC...
Thanks for posting the dates MP!

They made 2 announcements and it confused some people. Please read the most recent announcement below

Commencing January 1st 2012, the upper age limit for juniors at the IFBB World Championships Qualifier will be 23 years old during the year of competition.

For the North Americans and other CBBF national events (other than the previously mentioned IFBB World Championships events) the age limit shall remain at 21 years old during the year of competition, until further notice.
