Does anyone know how difficult it is to find gainful employment in Montreal within an industry such as production/manufacturing without being bilingual? So far I've liked montreal the most out of canadian cities I've visited, but it seems as though it'd be difficult to find a job without knowing french, even if you're willing to learn it.

I'm trying to find a job in Mtl aswell. Been here for two weeks now. Got a few interviews but thats it. I'm ok with the french part but the fact that i'm looking for work in a specialized field makes it difficult. Anyways I wish you good luck! Mtl really is a great town... with a lot of pretty ladies :)

Why not give toronto a try.About 500,000 English speaking Quebecers left in the late 70's early 80's for a reason.

Yeah, we left QC back in the day due to the Language politics, but like many others; I'm looking to get the **** out of Toronto and go back to Montreal.
Toronto is a cess pool of Toxins now.

Shit, I know more Korean and Chinese then I do French now.
I've got nothing against the influx of immigrants that come to Toronto, but with the Masses come the Asses, and believe me... Toronto is full of Asses (and not the good ones).

My father (3 months ago) was assaulted by a ****ing 16 year old Korean student here on a Student Visa. When we were at the 33 Division here in Toronto the Detective was VERY honest in relation to the Increase of crimes committed here.
No longer are we wary of venturing into areas like Jane and Finch, now it's the East Indians, Chinese and Koreans that take things to unacceptable levels. In their countries, perhaps their activities go unreported or unnoticed; here, they stand out like a sore thumb. Toronto is the poster child for Multiculturalism, albeit that can be a good thing. But not in this context.

Good luck in Montreal! I'm also looking to move there.

Maybe the Québécois are correct.

If you work downtown near English sectors such as Peel/crescent, you'll be fine. 95% of the store clerks down there will say hi instead of bonjour.

In Quebec, speaking French is a very good attribute if you want to work with the public. No need to be completely bilingual. Just the essential.

A big chunk of Montreal is english. I don't think you'd have issues finding work there. Almost everyone in Ottawa/Gatineau is bilingual and I can see this happening soon in Montreal. Reality is, french people are being assimilited, it's the way of the business. A big corporate scene...

Apparently being assimilated outside of Quebec.

I have no particular love for Toronto, I've always found Montreal to be a much more pleasant city. I highly doubt I'd be in a position where I would be dealing with the public, I haven't done that in awhile now, and I think I'd rather stay in an isolated post than deal with the masses again hahaha

Out of topic, but Playboy rated Montreal as the number one location for Bachelor Parties (yes, we beat Vegas)
