Hey everyone, my brother has recently been diagnosed with diabetes and he's lost all motivation to workout since he's unsure on whether he can still use his supplements, incase it will affect his blood sugars to much. Reason why I'm posting here is so I can show him that theres many people that go through the same thing and that he's not alone in this. I want him to get off his butt!! Anyways, my question is whether there are supplements that he should and shouldn't use if so, could anyone point us in the right direction of the best protein supplements (http://www.enutriments.com/protein) available for those with diabetes, if that is the case. Thank you very much, and any motivational statements that I could show him to help him back to where he was would be awsome!!!

He is type II diabetic Im guessing? Not insulin dependent right?

From my extremely limited knowledge in this subject, I have read good things about highly positive effects on blood sugar from bodybuilding exercise and timing of meals. One can one again cause themselves to be very sensitive to carbs thus reducing the effect of the diabetes in some people. I am butchering this knowledge but its worth looking into for him in more detail.

Depending on the case the diabetic can be completely symptom free if the guy takes care of himself.

Now tell you brother to stop being a lazy bitch, grow some balls, do his research eat well and exercise.

You my friend: that is a completely different case.

Instead of being his baby sitter give him the resources that he needs a slap in the face!

Supplements? yes: cow, chicken, salmon, bison, elk, horse, pig are all good sources of protein.

Let us know what happens.

Its not about the best protein supplements....supplements are really icing on the cake and are no necessary for him to make gains or manage diabetes for that matter. What he needs to do is some serious research on type 2 diabetes and learn as much as possible because that will only help him deal with his health in the best manner.
To start off a low glycemic low carb diet should be what he strives for...the main idea is to keep insulin levels low and stable, also weight training will help as well because it sensitizes the cells to insulin...ie the reverse of insulin resistance(type 2 diabetes).
Balanced meals with higher protein, moderate fat and low carb (low GI sources only) will allow him to manage his diabetes very easily. As for supps he can use most things..creatine, whey protein, NO, multi vitamin/mineral, GDA's will also be very beneficial such as R-ALA, and Chromium, Vanadyl Sulfate...
