Read the thread over the last few days. I don't agree with all the placings but thanks guys for posting up stuff we could see.

Very sad news. Joseph Conte from Ontario passed away in a hunting accident this past Monday. Garry Bartlett just posted the news on facebook.
This was Joseph's first Nationals. He was 13th in the Light-Heavyweight Division.

RIP

In this pose, I have Ryan for second for sure.

Ryan probably was the best from the back - top to bottom. If anything, a very very close 2nd. From the front it was a different story. Something about the shape I think just made him not stand out quite as much. Top 4-5 in that class were really good. Seems as though nationals is turning into the HW / SHW showdown. Yes there are still some great LHW and lower, but I think the caliber in the lower weight classes has been diminishing slowly over the years. What I mean, is in the past, the classes were a little deeper, where it wasn't just the top 2-3 guys who were phenomenal...You had guys outside top 5 who would place top 3 in todays shows. Part of it is those same guys are now heavyweights!

I have to agree with you on that! HW and SHW are pretty stacked right now. When Larry V. Competes the light heavy weights will be his in my opinion he simply is flawless.

Ryan in the SHW looked great! Put some really good size without sacrificing his condition. He was also a very good heavy weight.

On a side note if Sammy Zebib drops down into the light heavies like in hi 2004 condition it could again be very very competitive.

The guys are looking solid!! Great pictures in this thread!! Unbelievable conditioning on most those guys!! You've got the best of the best in Canada on that stage!! It could be any one of those top guys to walk away with that title if they bring their best! It will be interesting to see who shows up next year! Congratulations to everyone who competed at nationals!! It takes a lot of work, dedication and commitment to get that far!

The girls looked amazing, and as always, it's an honour for me to step on stage with them!

I know most of you on this forum are guys but, I noticed that there weren't a lot of pictures of the female side of the sport. So here is a link if any of you are interested, as well as the few girls frequenting here, looking to see some pictures.

Im sure that in the superheavyweights ud find that in each pose another guy stood out. Mike Johnson in fact in those trunks does not look nearly as good as at night because he has the most shredded glutes at nationals and those trunks hid them. Jerome bravo stands out the most when relazed but needs to work on getting the muscles to show more in each pose. Antoine justs needs to come in harder and hell win overall.
As far as the contest goes. the heavy weight and over classes do seem the most competitive but in my oppinion its only cuss all the top light heavies are now pro. Robert Belisle, Pat Bernard, Martin allard to name a few who are recently pro. As far as Larry Vinnete being the top light heavy I think u gotta ask urself how I will look with 15 lbs more muscle then my last nationals where I placed 3rd behind robert Belisle and Pat Bernard. I was 181 at my last nationals and I am quite confident I can give any lightheavy a run for their money now that I have added a substantial amount of muscle since 2009.

Well, that would make things a bit more interesting. Your right the lower classes have changed due to the top guys turning pro. I think the classes were weaker than in past years as some solid competitor didn't compete like yourself ( my donation to the nuthugger society...lol) I think you may see a couple of guys drop down from the heavies to light heavies in addition to yourself, Greg D., and a few others and the class is going to have a whole new look.

How about some love for all the "Classic" Bodybuilders in the house? Okay, the Asians then? Just playin' (trying to ride off the hype of Jeremy Lin).

Thought I'd throw up some pics from last year's Nats for those of you who like to kick it back a little old school, with a little shape and symmetry. Hope that more Classic Divisioin athletes post their picks from Nats up in here, seeing that the popularity of this division is growing every year!

Since Mike mentioned classic...and it was a well deserved win for him for sure, i thought i'd give you guys a peak at what the top 5 in the short class looked like. I'm beside Mike in the blue trunks.

DK...I still can't see you 4th. you look 2nd to me. great legs in this picture. I look at the pic and think you'll be crazy massive in men's physique! but as always, it's about the posing and pumping...

DK,

Thanks for posting the "group shot". You looked great up there bro. Hope you have a wicked season!

Razorsedge,

Thanks for the props! No futures plans to compete. Outside of my regular teaching job, I 'll be focusing a little more on my personal training business and endorsement contract obligations.

Steve,

Thank you for the props! Always a pleasure reading your posts...informative and cerebral. At Nats, they measured my height to be 5'7.5". After sitting in the sauna for an hour straight, just before weigh-ins, I was able to drop the 5lbs I needed to make my cut-off weight of 175lbs (as you may know, there's a mathematical formula involved in determining your max weight, in ratio to your height, as posted on the CBBF website). Yes, I got spanked by the judges in the open middleweightclass. However, I totally get and accept this. They felt I was too tall for a class where the average height is between 5'5"-5'6". I would have received preferential treatment in the light-heavies but I would've been at the lighter end of that spectrum and run the risk of getting over-looked in a field of 21 competitors. Therefore, I took my chances in competing in the middles and by proxy, making my weight for the Classic Division.

Good Luck in your endeavours this year Steve!

-Mike
