Hey all,

I was drunk boxing in thailand and seem to have injured my shoulder. it happened about 3 months ago now. my right shoulder. Still bothering me. It feels like it's on the front of my shoulder near my bicep. it hurts when i do an overhand grip pullup but not when i do an underhand grip pull up. very strange. and quite painful. it also hurts if i try to do shoulder press. really limiting what I can do in the gym. I am working in Australia and have very minimal health coverage here so surgery is not an option. is there anything i can do to speed the healing process?

Go to the doctor and get a scan. It's hard to fix something when you don't know what it is.

Acupunture may be an option.

Are there any physiotherapists or chiropractors in your area? The shoulder is a complex joint; the problem could be any number of structures. AC joint injury, bursitis, glenoid tear, anterior capsule insufficiency, and tendon strain, are just a few of the possible problems you may have. If it has still not improved after 3 months, diagnostic imaging is warranted to rule out a more complicated problem. To reinforce, you need an accurate diagnosis in order to ensure quick healing. In the interim, you may have to scale back the training regime with respect to that area so as to not aggravate the condition. Assuming it is a simple soft tissue injury, acupuncture, mobilisations, low level laser therapy, ultrasound, heat, cold, massage, rehabilitative exercises are all possible treatment options. If it is more complex, an orthopedic consult may be necessary.

At the end of the day, it is your body and your health. You don't want to gamble with it unduly and have your training permanently affected. I would get it checked out.
