OPA Provincial winners qualified for NA's???

So tons of rumours out there this morning that figure/bikini girls placing in the top of each height class at the Ontario Provincial's this past weekend are qualified to compete at North American's this year.

Not sure this is true. The following taken from the NA website specifically says bodybuilding. Can anyone clear this up?

"Canadian Competitors - Due to timing of the 2011 IFBB Amateur North American Championships and the 2011 CBBF Canadian Bodybuilding Championships, for 2011 ONLY the first and second place finishers from the 2011 Provincial Championships will be permitted to enter the 2011 IFBB Amateur North American Championships.

In addition, the top-5 positions from any of the CBBF national events from two-years prior to the 2011 IFBB Amateur North American Championships will be qualified to enter in 2011.

Please contact the CBBF Chairperson, Mark Smishek, at smishek@sasktel.net to receive a letter of recommendation in order to compete."


For the bodybuilders who placed 1st or 2nd in each weight class this makes sense as the National BODYBUILDING show is in October but figure, fitness, and bikini are in July well before the NA's.

The way I read it is that since the bodybuilding nationals are after north americans, the top 2 in each weight class would also be able to do north americans.it didn't spell it out, but I would assume that since figure nationals is before north americans, it wouldn't apply to them. They would have the same rules as before...top 5 at nationals qualify for na.

But...it looks like that actually isn't the case...and all of bikini, figure and bodybuilding provincials are also qualifying a couple of athletes per class. If that is the case, it is a great opportunity for people who may have not otherwise qualified. Especially in figure...because of the difference in judging in us vs. canada in figure, some girls coming out if top five at nationals actually have a favorable look for na....and by the looks of the wording on the north american website, this would be for all provinces.

personally I don't think it should apply for figure -but perhaps a lucky break for some?

I think its Top 2 any province but OPA top 3, or you can just email mark Smishek and as for letter of approval. I assume they would give a person a letter if they are in good standing with CBBF. Ill be doing that show
