I was just cruising the net when i came across 3 time Mr O champ Frank Zanes pics. It occurred to me that this physique was the pinnacle of bodybuilding perfection at the time and that the current physiques have changed so much. So i wanted to take a poll to really see what people preferred. (IF YOU HAD THE CHOICE) which body would you prefer to have as your own.

Frank Zane's physique for me! IMO, his physique displays a perfect balance or muscularity, and symmetry which is what bodybuilding is all about. It is also more aesthetically pleasing IMO. Dexter Jackson is the Frank Zane of today.

Well said. My younger years I preferred the mass monster look. Now it's the Zane look by far. Also society in general is much more accepting of the Zane look.

You hit the nail on the head on that one. The bodybuilder physique of today has gone well beyond what society finds appealing which has been reflected by the little interest in bodybuilding by the majority of the public.

Couldnt have picked more extremes for the pics could you?

How about Arnie? He'd be considered a classic physique as would nubert et al but even in their day they'd be considered mass monsters so its all relative. Coleman, branch and Cutler are the extremes of today's physiques. What about Flex or Levrone or even Dexter? By comparision to yester year they'd be considered classic physiques in today's bpdybuilding world.

For those mentioning what the public finds acceptable. Add 30 or so lbs to those physiques to simulate an offseason state where most of the average jow sits and you quickly realize that society wouldnt find that look overly appealing anymore than the peeps today.

LOL Nate yes i did pick the extremes...and yes there are more appealing current bodybuilders. But i guess i was comparing more Olympia winning physiques as they would be considered the #1 builds of their time.

What about Dorian Yates or Sergio Oliva? Or Phil Heath?

I would like to achieve a level similar to Frank Zane although if I ever jumped on the AAS bandwagon I would probably want to be bigger than him.

Id take the mass monster jay physique over the zane look. Just a matter of personal preference. Plus with my genetics i will never have a zane physique. Im not looking to be accepted by society id want that look for me and me only. If people dont like it well tough. I have a girl, i got a family that loves and supports me know matter what i look like. There is just something about being a monster i cant deny i would love.

Bingo.....Seems like creating a bias....hmmmm....lol
Anyway get some pics of cedric macmillan, phil heath, Jay in best , not worst stage shape, etc.......Zane is ok for a lil fella, Some of us can stop working out pretty much and attain that look with a good diet, and 3 workouts/week.......Not desireable for me....Mass all the way...
But get rid of the bad pics of Ron and Jay, and make it a bit more even, best of both mass and Skinny.....:beer

I'd choose the freak/mass monter look but wouldn't do it health wise (abuse of insulin, growth, AAS, peptides...)

Zane's physique with 70 lbs of lean mass would be fine for me.

Put 70lbs on Zane and you'd have Jay Cutler.
