Yes, I find an increase in muscle fullness. Which brand did you go with?

I pulled this from protein factory. You could say he's biased but he could sell this along with the other carb powders so I wouldn't say that.

The second product is Waxy Maize, or I like to call it Corn Starch. This product came to the market by a foreign company a few years ago. People that are selling it right now think (and buy it for that matter) that the basis of the product is that it is absorbed much more rapidly than any other carbohydrate on the planet, thus creating a larger insulin spike, thus helping amino acids and other supplements be shuttled to the muscle with much more speed and utilization. Sort of like Dextrose (glucose) but much more effective. Sounds good. Well, let me break it down for you in a nut shell.

Waxy Maize is NOT and I repeat NOT digested faster than Dextrose, and/or Maltodextrin, ie glucose. In fact Waxy Maize is digested A LOT SLOWER than these products. According to the site that sells Waxy Maize, under a branded name, Waxy Maize has a molecular weight of about 500,000 daltons. And if you have been a customer of mine and know about molecular weight you will know that the LOWER a molecular weight the FASTER the absorption. For example, our Hydrolyzed 1400 and 520. The 520 has an average MW of 520 daltons, the 1400 of course Average MW of 1400 daltons. The 520 is going to be digested a lot faster. That is why I try to make my customers understand the concept of MW if you are going to talk about the SPEED of absorption. You can NOT buy a hydrolyzed protein NOT knowing the MW, if you do you are dumb.

Waxy Maize, because it has a MW of 500,000 daltons is made up of many CHAINS. These chains have to be broken down by the body in order to be digested. The larger the chain the longer it takes to be digested. Dextrose and Maltodextrin on the other hand are digested very fast since they possess very SMALL CHAINS. And yes if you guzzle a lot of Dextrose down at once you will experience stomach discomfort. Why? Because your body is trying to digest a shit load of carbs all at once!(some people, not all). Personally if I drink Gatorade or something like that when it’s really hot, I feel queasy. For endurance athletes, a lot of these types of people have trouble with fast digesting carbohydrates. Waxy Maize might be a good alternative because it does not DUMP into the system all at once like Dextrose. It is digested slowly. That is why the foreign company selling Waxy Maize promotes it to endurance athletes, NOT bodybuilders.

Hence WAXY MAIZE is not a bodybuilding product. It is an endurance athlete product. (Really it’s not, but just to be nice). For postworkout supplementation you want the FASTEST digesting products available. Unless you have been living under a rock or have just started to learn about supplementation you know that you want Dextrose and Hydrolyzed protein post workout. (PeptoPro, Hydrolyzed 520, and Hydrolyzed 1400 in that order). Dextrose creates a big insulin spike (because it is digested very quickly), and Hydrolyzed protein is digested a helluva lot faster than regular Whey Protein. Studies show that there is a direct correlation between the rate at which nutrients enter the muscle cell and muscle growth. Not only that, but you can find a thousand studies backing up what I just said, not only every Tom, Dick, and Harry, self proclaimed supplement guru on every Joe Blow supplement company message boards

If you drink Waxy Maize post workout you create a very small insulin spike, thus taking away the opportunity to SPEED amino acids and Creatine to the muscle. Facts are facts, HIGH MW, slow absorption, LOW MW fast absorption, it doesn’t take a genius to understand that, and the proof is right there, just look at the site where they sell this product.

Just a little FYI. Waxy Maize is really just a fancy name for Corn Starch. Both products have a very similar MW average. I really don’t see the difference at all. Both products I can buy for the same price, about 15 cents per pound. Very cheap, and it’s a crappy, low quality product.

I took the liberty of requesting a sample of Waxy Maize about a year ago. Here is a picture of it. Not only that but the product tastes and mixes like shit. I felt no need to carry a product that really is not a bodybuilding product, not only that, but for athletes and endurance people, my Hydrolyzed Rice carb, is a thousand times better than waxy maize

I've used True Protein's waxy maize. Good stuff. I had it PWO for a few months last off season. I didn't, however, notice a difference between that and maltodextrin. And waxy maize is messy as hell, lol.

Why does everyone clain it digests SO MUCH fast than everything else, including dextrose? I ordered some to give it a shot, was this a complete waste when I could just stick with my dextrose?

Just read in an article that Dave Palumbo is a huge believer in wms (also sells it) AND Charles Glass, one of THE best trainers......yep, uses and firmly believes in the superiority of WMS :) I guess the science is that it's heavier and therefore gets to the stomach faster....it also has great osmolarity which means it passes through the stomach lining quite easily, taking other nutrients with it. I can't wait to try it for myself.

If you really want to know what works fastest, try both WM and Dextrose and get a blood glucose monitoring kit and test for yourself.

Ya I thought of that, and I might try it someday. That would be an interesting experiment. I do believe that it lives up to the claims BUT I don't understand how it can take in other supplements along with it since they would have different molecular weights....any thoughts on this? I guess taking it with caffein would be another good experiment to see if it's able to draw it into the blood stream more efficiently and faster...you'd feel it if it worked.

Not sure about caffeine. But for PWO, getting the aminos, etc in the faster the better. Buddy keeps going on about WM's molecular weight is higher than dextrose and all that but also its the osmolarity of WM that makes it highly absorbable getting across the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream and into the muscle cells faster.

Well, I have been using it and so far I think it's pretty good. I take it pre workout, 34g and then 68g post workout. I did get an amazing pump the other day, I'm not sure if it was the wms but my chest was swole! I think I'll be using it instead of dextrose from now on. Although it's more expensive, it's probably well worth it. I'm also going to try it with creatine mono.....I haven't used it in years because I got less than great results, so we'll see how that goes. I'm sure taking this stuff with arginine would produce mind blowing pumps!
