View Full Version : What is the best radar detector for motorcycles?
I have seen a few different versions of these ranging from $300 to over $500. Im wondering if anyone on here with bike experience has used or knows of a product that works well in all weather conditions, is relatively inexpensive, and relatively easy to install and operate?
This product would come in VERY handy and I would like to use one in the near future.
Of course I would only ever be using it in the provinces that allow radar / laser detector usage such as Alberta, BC, and Saskatchewan.
:)
The one Im leaning towards is the model seen on:

Any feedback is appreciated.

I haven't seen one mounted on a bike in Canada before... A lot of cops are using laser detectors now. When your radar detector goes off it means they've already shot the laser and nailed you.
I have a friend who use to have one in his car and it worked well. OPP are known to have there's on where ever they're driving and will get you when you're approaching them on the highway...Depending on the conditions it'll start to beep about five k away, maybe even more.
Why would you need it to work in all weather conditions though? Would you be going that fast in the rain?
Most radar detectors are laser compatible as well. All the ones I saw offer all types of radar / laser sensor options from more than enough time away to be able to slow down and avoid a ticket.
Its not about going THAT fast in the rain, its about OPP who give tickets for going 15km over the limit. Yes I have had these given in the past. Pretty fun.
Also, some detectors will not function if they get wet. Pour a little water on them and they are toast. I dont feel like investing hundreds of dollars on something that works until I ride it in rain.

I agree that most of the detectors are laser compatible now....The only thing is a laser detector won't help. With the laser they shoot the vehicle with pin point accuracy. So by the time the detector picks up the laser it's too late...It also doesn't run constantly like the older outdated radar guns.
You have bad luck! lol. 15 over is a BS ticket
As for one that is good in all weather, to be safe just put a sandwich bag over top of it when it looks like it's gonna rain ;)

Laser jammers. Nothing will register on the laser gun. They have them for cars not sure about bikes. BTW it's illegal to possess radar/laser jammers in ontario whether its in use or not UNLESS its sealed up in the OEM box. Up to 1000 dollar fine and seizure.
Just thought you should know, even tho you won't be using it here(which I completely believe) ;)
What you need is a wire guided missile. ;)
The thing about laser detectors from my (limited) understanding is that they work from up to a few km away. Even if the cop is not running it constantly he will still be running it relatively consistently and if you have a detector you will know if he is using it FAR away from being able for him to detect you speeding.
sequence of events:
1. you are speeding on your cool bike
2. your laser detector goes off alerting you that within 1-2km there is a speed trap
3. you slow down to 110km
4. 1-2 mins later you see the officer operating his machine and you cruise past him at a cool 110 in the right lane :)
seems like a fool proof plan to me
I have mine mounted in my truck , works like a charm , while they are shooting the lazer at cars way ahead of me it goes off warning me to slow down .....I havent had one since i got it . When i travel to Ont i take it with me as well , OPP aint no friend to me !!
So just to clarify nobody on this site uses one or knows of anybody who uses one on a motorcycle?
Pretty weak guys......pretty weak indeed....
Especially you guys out west where these things are legal. Step your game up.
http://www.pashnit.com/product/adaptiv_radar.html - check this link out , not sure if you want it hidden you could mount elsewhere but thought this was a good bike set up ,

I stand corrected....You'll have to let us know how that one works #8...I may have to get one for my travels to places where it's legal.
