Updated, 11:15 p.m. ET] Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. forces in a mansion outside the Pakistani capital of Islamabad along with other family members, a senior U.S. official tells CNN.
Congressional and administration sources say U.S. officials have the body of bin Laden. Further details around his death were not immediately available.
Bin Laden was the leader of al Qaeda, the terrorist network behind the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.
U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to address the nation shortly.

I'm not gonna lie here. I'm not really impressed. Ten years to find Bin Laden with all this technology!? There is something fishy about all of this... Obama's numbers may go up a little though just at the right time.

He avoided the technology authorities would normally employ to find you such as phones and Internet.And this was eventually his signature.He was living in a compound much larger than the surrounding villas,but the place had no phones or Internet.They could also check for cell emissions.High walls,armed guards,I guess they got a look at a tall thin man...

CNN) -- DNA matching is under way on samples from the body of slain terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden, a U.S. government official told CNN on Monday.
There are photographs of the body with a gunshot wound to the side of the head that shows an individual who is not unrecognizable as bin Laden, the official said.
No decision has yet been made on whether to release the photographs and if so, when and how.
The mastermind of the worst terrorist attacks on American soil was killed by U.S. forces Monday in a mansion in Abbottabad, about 50 kilometers (31 miles) north of the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, U.S. officials said.
Four others in the compound also were killed. One of them was bin Laden's adult son, and another was a woman being used as a shield by a male combatant, the officials said.
Bin Laden's body was later buried at sea, an official said. Many Muslims adhere to the belief that bodies should be buried within one day.

They suspected the courier was the contact.So they follow him as far as they can the first time before they lose him.They watch and wait and place more resources further up the line and trail him a little further next time,and so on.Then they had to actually view him,develop a plan.

Bin Laden is dead because he wanted to die :) not because the American navy seals did a good job. The guy was living in a manchen in not in a cave somewhere. Someone else has taken the lead role in terror and will do more damage to the Americans . This will not end.
Now the Americans can feel high and mighty about themselfs until the next attack.
Americans,Brits and Canucks have been fending off the attacks pretty well.

The whole story is BS. They dispose of the body less then 12 hours after he was supposedly shot? They say they are going to do a DNA test but DNA is easy to fake if you already have a sample collected from before then you just turn that in and the test will come back positive. They likely won't even have to do that though, they will just say that they did a test the sample matches and that will be proof enough for most people. Body is gone we will just have to take Barry's word I guess......
Don't count on him showing up anytime soon.I guess he could always do a new threat vid to prove what lying infidels the Americans are.
the pic floating around the web of him dead is a fake. its a pic of a dead insurgent with bin ladens face super-imposed on top of it.
real pictures of his dead body will surface i am sure.

The new details contradict on-the-record and off-the-record versions offered by senior U.S. officials about how the operation went down, including statements that bin Laden had a weapon.

yep, just one more thing left open for people to doubt.... I mean if their not going to capture him alive, and we don't have anything to prove it was him, other the the American Government's word it was him........ Why go to all this trouble, they could have just bombed the living **** out of his compound..... I'm pretty interested in the "stealth" helicopters used in the raid too, never heard of that one before either.

The pictures can't be any more gruesome than the video of Saddam being taunted during his hanging, they didn't have a problem releasing that........
I guess they didn't carry tranquilizers of any sort.A trial would be a long running problem for everybody concerned.And a huge source of discontent.Why would he be unarmed?

Meh, lots of guys in Gitmo for years with no trial...... Would be a huge target though.
Looks like the official story regarding if he was armed has changed already.......... IF he was unarmed why kill him? Invaluable source of intel information......................

Hard to say really. It could be the result of a combination of extremely complex issues painstakingly thought out by the best and brightest in Washington. Or as simple as the people who died on 9/11 didn't get a trial so Osama didn't deserve one either. Or anywhere in between. I like to believe that what is being portrayed as the truth is fairly similar to what actually happened. If only because I don't see a huge advantage to covering everything up and the truth is just as likely if not more likely than most conceivable lies. Also with modern technology it just seems so easy/likely to have someone blow the whistle. Theres some big, big questions that have not been answered.
I don't care how many hard drives etc they captured, its not the same as waterboarding the man who called all the shots.
So why has the policy changed so drastically? Why bother to drag his body with them? Why not just bomb the flock out of his compound? Burial at Sea? Why not just leave his dead ass in pakistan, the Pakistani's had no problem with him being there alive..........

The Pakistani's are just as hostile as anybody else in that region, have been from day 1 IMHO.
It was widely speculated Osama was there for years, turned out to be true......... So they got billions as an ally in the war on terror, but in fact they were run by a military dictator who looked the other way.......... and they have nukes to boot.
Its going to be really interesting how this plays out, Pakistan has kind of been the elephant in the room for a while now......

Obama's ratings were slipping and they needed to eventually get rid the the myth of him so it was a good time to do so. It also explains why the story keeps changing because the whole thing is a lie.

Thats a great point for anybody who thinks anything is beyond possibility....... People should look into the cover storys they had planned for Invading Cuba too, involved actually attacking American citys and killing civilians.
