These guys are crazy strong but powerlifting has become such a sideshow with the monolifts, super wide stances, above parallel depth and ridiculous equipment. It just makes me feel bad for guys that compete because as it stands today it will never be taken seriously as a sport. If it were ever included at the olympics the lifts being performed would look nothing like the above squat. Still crazy strong though.

As a competitor myself I do not care what others do. This is something I do for myself ( and most lifters will say the same ) I could choose to be 275+ but I choose to stay at 240 and compete at 220 and I'm 6'1 so I may step up to the 240's.

I've lifted raw and with gear ( single ply ) and still did alright in my weight class. I love watching guys bench 700 lbs. and squat over 1000lbs. I don't care how much gear , supplements or weight you are its a ****ing lot of weight. It's stressful just picking it up.

Yes - O-train it has become a side show , but it's amazing !! and personally I choose not to lift with those guys not because I would come last but I'm not willing to put my body through what they do. I guess it's just not my life..

is there anyone who can move huge weight who isn't morbidly obese though? Yes there is , but this guy has made the decision to be 300 lbs and squat 1200+ . Sure he's big , but he has more muscle on him than most people even though it is covered :) If you had a goal to be the strongest in the world wouldn't you do whatever it too to get there ? I bet he could lose the weight and get a 6 pack any time he wanted , but his numbers would suffer and he is not willing to do that.

For me I still believe raw is the only true test of strength, but it's also fun to put on a bench shirt and blast out 100lbs more !!

Bottom line is it's an individual sport, you don't go to meets trying to get a gold metal you go and try and break your PR's

I still think it would be cool in the Olympics. With all the publicity and funding the sport would grow by leaps and bounds. I remember an interview with Scott Mendelson and he said he would start deadlifting and squatting again if it meant he could compete at the Olympics.
