Im looking at buying this bench press from Canadian Tire http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/5/SportsRec/4/FitnessWellness/BenchesGyms/PRD~0840777P/Apex%252B2-piece%252BStandard%252BBench.jsp
it is a two piece setup so that the uprights can be used as a squat rack as well.
manual says that the uprights can hold 600lbs and the max user's weight on the bench is 300lbs ( going to call manufacture about how much weight user plus weights the bench can hold ) I really like the fact that it is a two piece setup and that it is only $299 (my budget is limited). hoping that you guys had some input, or a bench that is comparable to this one.

it actually looks pretty decent. i was expecting much worse. check out fitness depot though for sure, they have good quality stuff that isnt too expensive. I used to own a Northern Lights Bench and it was really nice. Lifetime warranty on everything.

if you buy it be extra careful when racking the barbell unless you have lag bolted to the floor. i could see it toppling over very easily.

By eye it looks ok. I suggest you head down to the store and check it out. It may be a little less rigid than it looks.

I would personally recommend this combo (ESPECIALLY IF YOU TRAIN ALONE). If the rack is too tall for your ceiling, they sell a shorter one. This combo will allow you to hit legs, shoulders, back and chest for a reasonable price. The equipment is sturdy. Trust me. I trained years with Northern Lights stuff.

Agree MP.Canborn, forget the leg curl/extension part, usually fairly useless on those contraptions.

Agreed. If you train alone, safety racks (esp for benching) are a must. I’d look into expanding your budget and doing things right. I also really like (and own) a Northern Lights. POWERTEC is great too.

Check out Kijiji in your area. Most fitness stuff on there is hardily used and less than 1/2 the retail price.

Thanks for the feed back. I was worried a little about the uprights tipping over, and as far as the leg curl I had no plans of using it anyways. the thing that is really selling me on this bench is that it is a two piece unit and the low price. I have looked at the Northern Lights brand and would like to have a full cage but it is just too out of my price range as of right now. Still though im going to take my time and keep looking until i find what fits.

I see your in Edmonton . Go check out http://www.luckis.ca/ . He has some great equipment. You can pick up a cage for close to the same price as that bench. With the cage your protected and it can hold lots of weight ( I've had over 900lbs on mine ) . Well worth the extra $75 for something that you will use forever and takes up minimal room.

I agree with Talo – Lucki’s is a great place to go. If you are interested, I also have a ‘work perk’ that allows me to print off a 10% off coupon on selected equipment and accessories as well you are more than welcome to have and use if the cage falls into such a category..? I can mail it to you. Just let me know.

Yeah think spending a extra $75 is a good investment since i was never going to use the leg curl attachment anyways and i already have a bench with preacher curl. I will have to go down and check out the store. probably the best thing to have since i work out at home.
