Just had a quick question about ground beef.
Does anyone know what the nutritional value's of lean ground beef is after its been cook, drained and rinsed?
I assume the fat content drops Significantly after it has been rinsed, therefore numbers wouldnt match up what say calorieking.com says...
* I also heard a rumor once, that you can just buy reg. beef and once drained and rinsed it is the same nutritional value of extra lean beef? True? False?
( if thats true iv been a succer all these years buying the more expensive lean beef! )
thanks,
B

The nutritional value is the same whether it is extra lean, lean, or regular ground beef....the only difference is fat content. Drain and rinse the beef once cooked with HOT water and you are fine.

Well thats what i meant.. i knew the protein value didnt change.. i was just wondering how the fat value changed? if this calorie counter for 80% lean ground beef is: 6oz = fat 27g pro 41g carb 0 ... then after a nice wash and rinse cycle how much does that fat drop? fat=? pro 41g carb 0
Im just starting to make some tweaks to my diet.. I am running very low carb, and higher fat.. but i havnt really been monitoring the actualy fat amount per day.. more just winging it with natty PB and almonds.. so i wanted to get an approx for what Ground Beef was adding..
I asked this question many months ago and got retarded ass responses.
If 6 oz of uncooked beef has x amount of protein than 6 oz of COOKED beef will have more protein in it. It has to. It has lost weight from water and fat slightly, therefore the extra weight making up with 6 oz is coming from more protein.

Thats why you always weigh protein cooked.

It will save you lots of money buying regular ground beef and washing away the fat.

Alright.. So im going with the answer: use regular beef.. its cheaper.. and just continue to drain and rinse because in the end it is the SAME fat content? Now.. any idea what that fat content is after cooked, drained and rinsed?

A tablespoon of any kind of oil or grease is 14grams of fat. So you could cook a some ground beef, pour the fat into a bowl and measure it. This would give you an rough idea of how much fat is lost after draining.

That seems like a lot of work! I am surprised that no one else has asked this question yet.. or does not have an instant answer.. I am the only one eating ground beef? or are most people just not counting it toward their daily fat intake??

There is no instant answer...the only way is to measure it

interesting topic, i have never ever considered soaking straining or removing the grease, according to the food network grease = flavour and being fried ground beef is my favourite meat to eat haha i enjoy every bite! but i do not compete so a little here and there is not a big deal. Keep up the good work!

to be honest, i don't remember the last time we've bought ground beef. We try to ensure we harvest either a moose or a couple of deer. we trim every last ounce of fat away before sending to the butcher and when we cook it it typically has next to nothing in the pan. If we cook a pound and make a few burger patties, we may end up with a tbsp. or two of fat.

I just don't care. I buy the extra lean and use 200g of uncooked beef per meal (40g protein, 20g fat). If I'm cutting I use ground turkey instead to cut down on fat.
Washing the beef to save a few dollars here and there just seems like a waste of time.

I know what the Nutrition facts of Beef are BEFORE its rinsed and drained..that is posted right on the package when you buy it..
I could not imagine anyone NOT draining the fat out of beef before eating it..if you are even the least bit health Conscious. Even when i buy lean beef sometimes i still get 1/2 or so of fat drained off..i always imagine all that crap just hardening like it does in the bowl.. but inside my stomach!

I eat it bro but i get AAA ground sirloin bottom steak tails from my butcher. Its almost 95% lean. Very good and very little grease. But when i do get the regular i will just by the lean ground beef and wash it. I cant say that i ever counted the grease but just be sensible and say that if it had 20g of fat and u wash it it prolly loses 5-10g of grease. No matter what it is not a soruce of good fat so you need to add healthy fats anyways.

That fat is the worst of any fat too. Mammals store all there waste in toxins mainly in there fat so imagine how toxic and nasty the fat from the beef is. Especially since the way we feed cows for the beef most of us by. CORN. think food inc. when they cut that cow open to pull shit out of its stomach. Not pretty. But ground beef is the shit still!
