so i've had this swollen lymph node on the right side of my neck for the better part of 12 months now...

i went to see my doc, she sent me for a ultrasound...the results were inconclusive - the specialist noted a swollen lymph node...but my doc doesnt want to take any chances so i'm getting a mri.

she asked me if i had any infections, streph throat, etc - i don't, but what i may have is a sterile abscess in my glute...in fact i'm pretty sure i have at least one or two..can this be the cause of the swollen node??

i'm wondering if anyone can share any experiences?

YUP its possible, took one 250mg shot of test E and the next morning both/ALL of my lymph nodes were swollen in my face... lol. Could be coincidence with coming down with something else but i felt fine when i took the shot. It was probably a reaction to the BA/BB or w.e because subsequent injections caused pretty serious pain.

Has the abscess been there for as long as the lymph nodes ?
It's good that you got an ultra sound and going for an MRI .

I'm going through the same thing right now. I went for a CT to look at my discs and they found some swollen lymph nodes - after two CT's , some blood work and a ultra sound on my testies every looks good , but my dr is still sending all the info to a surgeon for a second look. When it comes to things like this its usually nothing . Don't stress about it , take advantage of it and get everything checked.

infection is #1 reason for swollen lymph nodes

Your lymphatic system is what kicks in in order to defend from foriegn substances. It your bodies own self defence mechanism. So they could be related. However I find when this happens the area where the injection was swells, not my glands them selves. By adding "water" around the foriegn substance its your body trying to stop whatever it has detected from getting any further into your system.

Are you sure you don't have a cavity hiding way back in the molars? This slow release can put stress on you...maybe hiding under a filling?

A sterile abcess by definition is not infected so there's no reason why your lymph nodes would swell up. Furthermore, there's no reason that you would get that drainage in your neck nodes given that there's nodes way closer to the glute.

It's something else.

As others have said, No. Lympatic nodes swell near the location of the infection. think of you nodes as little fortress outposts ... you move more soldiers (lympocytes) into the area being invaded... click this link for more info http://www.medicinenet.com/swollen_lymph_nodes/page3.htm
