Message from the President Ontario Physique Association

Dear members,

These are exciting times and we are preparing for positive changes in our organization to help continually promote and assist our Association members, sponsors, and advertising magazines. I would like to congratulate IFBB Pro Zara Pineda-Boorder selected as our new OPA Bikini rep, IFBB Pro Greg Kovacs, and IFBB Pro Fouad Abiad selected as our new OPA Bodybuilding reps. They have all volunteered their services to the OPA and will be great assets to our Association as we continue to grow. Please do not hesitate to reach Zara at FitnessbyZara@gmail.com, Greg at hugegreg@hotmail.com and Fouad at fouadhossabiad.com

I wish to personally thank Terry Frendo and his team at Inside Fitness for advertising and promoting our athletes as well as our contests. This is the largest Canadian magazine being sold in Canada, and are celebrating their 5th anniversary. You can show your support by purchasing the magazine at various outlets or by subscription. Staying on the media forefront, the IFM team has recently launched their extraordinary website, you can check it out at insidefitnessmag.com I wish to also thank Scott Welch and Domenic Mauro for their great support, their magazine, Muscle Insider is available at many Supplement stores and gyms across Canada. Check out their popular website for exciting news at muscle-insider.com We are looking forward to seeing more Inside Fitness and Muscle Insider at all our sanctioned events. They have both made commitments to support all our contests.

As you are aware, The Toronto Pro Super Show is the biggest news in Canadian bodybuilding, figure, fitness and bikini. As this will be second to none in the professional bodybuilding world for Canada. Our provincial championships will be the largest provincial event ever. As you are aware, the top five qualify for the CBBF Nationals and to give the Ontario’s added value, for this year only, the top 3 in each class will also qualify to enter the 2011 IFBB North American Championships being held in September.

I would be remiss if I did not thank our good friend Robert Kennedy, owner and publisher of Musclemag International. The largest International bodybuilding, figure, fitness and bikini Magazine in the world. Robert Kennedy has shown his support of the Torontoprosupershow by hosting our very first Oxygen Fitness Model and MuscleMag Bikini Model searches. This will be open to everyone who wishes to participate with a chance to win an exclusive photo shoot for Oxygen and MuscleMag publications, this is an unbelievable opportunity for all females. In Closing, I will just say thank you to all our volunteers and the promoters who have stepped to the plate this year to organize and promote our new contests.

Ron Haché, President

Thanks for posting

I actually just emailed Ron Hache for clarification of what they're looking for this year with figure, in the past they were looking for a softer, feminine look. This year he states they are looking for a crisper and slightly dryer look, athletic looking with muscle fullness - without the bodybuilder size.

Just thought I'd share :)

LOL

Let's see who ends up winning the shows and then we can determine if the right person won based on the criteria that Ron provided. I am willing to doubt the right people will win ;)

Hahaha great point...

I agree. Last year I watched the Sudbury show and was completely blown away by the obvious favouritism. I saw a few posts from Angela on this site...Not to take away from the other girls that girl should have won the overall, hands down.

Do you think the judging is more objective at the provincials than small local shows?

Unbelievable..thats the opposite of what was anticipated. Will be interesting to see what happens as noted here.
In the stage of prepping some figure girls in BC and have no idea how judging will go this year so will have to go see first show just to get a baseline as to what is too hard and what isn't cutting it?????

Well you really never know...I think at the smaller shows they don't want huge muscles but once you get to the provincial level or higher the girls get bigger

Nope, it is basically the same judges as the local shows. The only thing that changes between local and provincial shows is that the caliber of athlete is slightly higher...it all depends on who is at the show. If all the girls in your class are big and hard and you come in soft (or vice versa) then you will come either first or last. If all the girls in your class look different the judges seem to rely on pretty faces and stage presence...can't really blame judges they have a tough job but I do agree more consistency would be nice (but probably not a reality).

My advice and I tell girls this all the time...compete how you want to look. Work on your stage presence and make sure you perfect your presentation. Any given Saturday anyone can win or lose, it's the nature of an subjective judged sport and will never change.

You know what...
being remembered as "the girl who got ripped off in Subury" has made me more popular than if I would have won the big trophy, lol. Every show I go to someone comes up to me and brings it up, even if I am only in the audience!
Very flattering...
Thanks for the compliment and best of luck in your upcoming season!
