My wife and I want to set up a small gym in our basement. We are pricing things out now but I can't seem to find a good gym mat at an affordable price. I've seen cow mats used in gyms before and they look good to me but I don't know where to get them. Has anyone purchased gym mats before? If so can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

I just checked out your link. Thanks! The ones there are more of a folding softer type (like a gymnastic mat). I am really looking for something more permanent. The kind that interlock would be nice but not necessary.

I've seen the horse stall mats used in a few different gyms. They work awesome and are really durable and heavy. They'll last longer than your house and are much thicker than the other mats which keeps the concrete from getting pulverized.

Edit: I just noticed the manufacturer. Not sure if you can order direct through them or if it would be worth it but here's the website: http://www.royalmat.com/home.aspx

I didn't even think of TSC. Thanks guys that is exactly what I was looking for. I'll also call Royalmat to check on their pricing.
Thanks!

I found a local place that delivered horse stall mats. they were 3/4 inch thick (actually alot closer to 1 inch then .75inches...anyway, worked out to just under 25$ per 4x8 mat.

Bought close to 1000$ worth and covered the entire floor...watch the smell though...

Thanks steve d! Yes, Inremember now that the cow mats had a distinctive smell. I will have to get the wife's approval first on this one.

Hey, you can check www.systemeselites.com They have some good mats. I don't know too much about it, but they have different density and materials. I'm guessing its for different purposes. I sent them an email to know what is best to practice Judo and I must say I'm very satisfied with the ones they suggested. Have a nice day!

I got mine at wal-mart a long time ago , $30 for 6 1 sq ft mats. Glued them to the floor and they are still there. Suprisingly good quality for a wal-mart product. They absorb alot of the impact from dropping weights, very comfortable to lay on for abs work.
