I just wanted to bring up injuries with the lifters here. It is something we all go through and some are worst then others

Are you guys in pain all the time with the little nagging injuries or do you / have you had some big stuff that has put you out of the gym and your competitions awhile ?

What have you had and what have you done to be able to make a come back?

Currently I'm facing Bulged discs (lower back) decompression, degeneration to my discs plus some arthritis.
Also my left knee with a torn acl and some arthritis.
My shoulders are always a mess with scar tissue (old and deep) that basically hurts all the time while benching.

Not too much I can do about this - Currently seeing a chiro for my back in hopes that he will help with the decompression and for my shoulders with some ART, also getting lots of deep tissue work down :)

I do have an appointment coming up soon so I can find out what options I have with my knee.

I'm just curious to see what others have gone through and have you have over come it to get back into the gym or have you had to adjust your training to it?

Over all health is always my main concern ,but then again the love of lifting heavy shit is still there which makes it hard to adjust to this - trying to go bench only so I can still go heavy , but then again, how long will my shoulders last :)

Is it cross fit time?

shitty situation your in Talo, hope you get better big guy!!

the only injury i've had and I think is a pretty severe one, I ruptured my quads tendon.

Its been 3 months from the injury, as for your question I still feel abit of pain. I was out of the gym for a little over 3 months, and because i couldn't get up off a chair i had to get my meals made for me so i ate like a normal human and lost around 50 pounds.

currently going to physio 3 times a week.

now i'm walking and back in the gym mainly doing upper body, and it feels GREAT!!!

Holy shit Talo..ur coming apart man. Time for 6 million dollar man rebuild. Lol.

Nagging and chronic injuries are part of the game as we stress our muscles and joints so much.

I've endured the back issues like you from the squatting and DL and basically just had to eat humble pie and alter training for a while until the pain subsided a bit. Had to sit differently, sleep different etc and exercise different. Once I started to feel better, I returned to these exercise but basically used the knowledge and experience I had gained to look like a pussy in the gym for a bit...squatting and DL with 135 for reps to re intro the muscles and my body to the movement and really go slow...like way too slow in our mind...and work up as it felt better in small increments. You want to give er but you start to think about the potential injury and the pain returning. So far all has gone well and getting sets in both over 400 again but again...you want to throw another big pie on and you feel you could just crush it...the voice of reason cuts in. I don't intend on trying to increase weight for some time...just reps and we'll see how it goes.

Amazing thing is I feel better than ever in the back..no nagging pain, sleeping better etc...

Also tore tricep off but that is a diff story as they cut you, re-attach and you rehab it to the best you can but never the same...I have 2 arms that look different as I thought I was smarter than physio etc and weight training would re-hab me...dumb, dumb, dumb..if i had that one over I would have done all the physio as recommended, did some gh at same time and moved slowly thru the process...next time..LOL

Hang in there and let ur body heal....humbling but have to do it bro.

The back is a big one because it does take you out of so many different things . Personaly I'm just waiting to see what this last CT has to offer but I don't think I will be back over 500 any time soon / if ever :(

Sounds to me like you did very well with rehab on your back. How long did it take you to get over 400 and what was your best lift before your injury.

Crazy with your tri . I know what you mean with the physio as I've had that feeling before too ( him not knowing as much ) but then I remember it's like starting all over again with the muscle ( and not the brain :) ) as it has to learn how to be used again.

My worst so far is when I had a bunch of micro tears through my AC tendon from benching back when I was in university, kept me from doing alot of upper body work for 3 months or so.
Also in highschool I got hit in the knee with a shotput at track practice and occassionally I have some knee pain but it's good for the most part.
Other then that just some slight elbow and wrist pain from time to time when pressing

It took about 6 months of no squatting / DL and doing other exercises and believe it or not core work like every tells you..I even did squatting, no weight, on inverted bosu. After about 6 months I started back with the lifts. I stayed at 135 for about 2 months doing 6 sets of 10-12 so the muscles were getting worked but not really stressed...same for the DL. My DL now are more than before (just under 500) and squats about same but I'm just excited about being able to do them again...from the start with the 135 til now is just over a year and the long slow process was worth it to me.

Right now playing with that Russian Squat routine to help with form, stamina etc. Funny how your mind works, when at first I made the decision no more squats /dl etc, I was so happy as I thought, no more beating yourself up on that shit, don't need that anymore etc but after 2-3 months, ur itching to try it again as you start to feel better. Even once I got feeling better, it was not my intent to start again but I started training some WHL guys and that was part of their bit. It felt good and I decided I'd give it a go again..I never thought I'd be able to get back to these numbers again or that I would even want to.

The tri was just stupid...didn't happen in gym ...sometimes we think we are a lot smarter than we are with physiology etc...if I had of done it right I think it would have turned out better but I ended up losing some ROM and never got the full strength back..still have hardware in there and have been assured it will never come off due to the healing / hardware but it still sucks...look in the mirror and see a dummy on that one.

Left shoulder for me, its been exactly a year now. I took 9 months off last year, partly because i wanted to see if my shoulder would get better, and partly when i realized the time off was making no difference what so ever i was enjoying not having to go to the gym. It had been years since i took any real time off and i kinda enjoyed it.

I've been back training for a couple months now but any push movements kill me. I've had x-rays done and they could find nothing. Last Friday i finally went to a physiotherapist, ya i know, he gave me shit for waiting so long too.. So now we're in the process of trying to find what the problem is. I go again this Friday and he's probably going to have me get a more in-depth x-ray done.... I'm feeling optimistic :)

That's the worst , when they find nothing. Same thing with my knee. It was a baseball injury and they told me it was nothing. So I ended up rehabbing it back to health myself. Just time off and then squatting to build the muscle up around it.
I asked for a scan about 3 times in 3 years and finally they agreed. Now the issue is with the surgen , because it's an OLD injury so I don't know if they will work on it.

I feel as if I got scewed on that one because there is only so much winning a person can do

Hey guys I am new here and glad to see this section as it was my main reason to join. Injury etc . I have a similar issue. Im 35 male, former competitive athlete, and rec bodybuilder. I suffer from chronic sciatica, Multiple bulging and herniated discs in my lumbar as well as degenration of collegen between my discs, and neck injury from Judo as well as a Torn RC in right shoulder from a car wreck 3 years ago. I have used arginine and zma to increase gh to increase my collegen in lumbar to counter spinal surgery. I have read alot of reserach on peptides to increase collegen synthesis without taking GH. Anyone else had any experience in these research peptides?
