Sorry if this is not the right area to post this in....feel free to move it if I have made a mistake.

I am a user of Dexedrine (an amphetamine) for ADHD. I only take it for school purposes, and it really does help improve my grades and attention span while in class. My doc prescribed a 30mg dose for each "time" I want to take it. I usually actually only take half of that (they are 15mg spansules). However even on this dose I still have very little appetite. It is really hard to even eat until about ten hours after (food just seems disgusting for some reason). I know this not helping me on my quest to eat and gain some mass. I can deal with this though, I drink shakes and try my best to consume while on it (which will only be till the end of the term).

What I was also wondering though, is if you folks knew of any other negative side effects related to building muscle? I can tell you guys one thing, you do feel pretty pumped right after you take it (it actually does seem to help my lifts). I have heard it can raise your Cortisol levels and that this can be bad for muscle growth/recovery. Is there something I could be taking that would help combat this?

Its an amphetamine. They give energy and supress appetite. Relate that back to your goals. Anything that suppresses appetite while trying to get bigger and stronger is the devil as far as that goal goes :) I would personally only ever use those time released capsules when dieting or pulling an all nighter before a midterm or driving for 20 hrs straight :)

Get rid of them during a building period. Take a caffeine pill before a workout. Thats all you need in my opinion. Before a max lift I like a piece of nicorette. Thats it for me.

Btw you don't have ADHD :) You're using dexedrine as a crutch for its stimulatory properties. Thats OK by me but just saying....people with ADHD actually have the opposite effect when they take these stimuants. It sedates them and helps the focus.

It does not wire them for sound :)

Uh. Okay. They tell me I do. Whatever, I'll take your advice.

Did they get you to fill out a questionaire or just ask you a couple questions before accurately diagnosing your brain :)

I can't say 100% you don't but please just be skeptical and question before accepting something like that. Don't ever use ADHD as a crutch either. There are millions that didn't before the powers that be came up with ADHD and started diagnosing everyone overnight.lol Not nearly as many people have it as are prescribed the meds for it. The pharmaceutical industry loves money :)

I really think that you are trying to be helpful... but I don't think you really should assume that I was just easily diagnosed with ADHD and have just gone with it. It's actually something I struggle with, along with other learning disabilities and behavioural problems. I had to go through EXTENSIVE testing and have to see people on a practically monthly basis (obviously not just for ADHD). I was really hoping this wasn't one of those times that someone was just going to criticize me- but I get why people do take a shot at the ADHD thing (a lot of people seem to have it ect.). I was just hoping for some advice on some supplements/drugs that I could take to offset some of the potential damaging effects that dex might have (I can deal with the appetite thing). For the record, it does "calm me down" cognitively, however anyone who would tell you it doesn't give you some "physical" energy (even when the have ADHD) is full of shit IMO. However, this energy is not something that I take the drug for. I take it for school.

But I know you weren't trying to dig at me. It just seems that everyone always takes a shot at that.

In no way was I taking a shot at you. More the system thats all. If you have it or don't you are who you are. :) Life doesn't give a shit if you have ADHD. Thats my main point I suppose.

If you really find that it helps with your studies take it but don't ever use that DIAGNOSIS or that medication as a crutch is my advice.

It runs in my family big time apparently. My uncles, cousins, sister, father etc etc and then me.lol "They" say I have "it." Whoever "they" are and "it" is? LOL I am who I am and who's to say its not just who I am? lol

I'm joking but I'm serious. Just deal with it and get rid of the label :)

As far as your original question. You can always cheat by taking in liquid calories.

If you're just trying to get big at all costs there are a million homemade shakes you can try. Liquid calories are a great way to bump up your calorie count :)

You can be healthy about it too in the form of fruit smoothies with yogourt, tbs flax seed oil and skim milk plus protein powder. Drink at least 3 a day to start.

If thats not enough drink chocolate milk with peanut butter and chocolate ice cream and 70 grams of protein powder along with a tablespoon of flaxseed oil. That'll put on the pounds.lol

Figure out a few different shakes you like and exactly how healthy and calorie dense you would like them. Figure out the calorie count and just keep upping it until you start gaining. Drink at least a few a day along with a few meals. You can easily take your calorie count very high this way

Thats my best suggestion.

LIQUID CALORIES IF YOU ABSOLUTELY CANNOT EAT ANYMORE

Hope that helps and I apologize if I accidentally offended you with my humor.

Students used amphetamines years ago to cram. For sure it is diagnosed far too frequently, they get over it.30 mg seems huge for daily use.40 mg can turn somebody into a hyperactive person. It looks tough to gain natty using that stuff.Start breaking up those caps.

Japh that's good advice. Lately I have taking a lot more "liquid calories" so I am on the right track. I am not really looking to get rid of it or to deal with the label- I really don't feel like the label matters (I only have to tell people if I want to).

Cog- I agree with you, I usually only take a half dose. I only take this stuff 3 or 4 times a week too, and I am not on any other drugs. So I think that's pretty good. I am in my last year of Uni, so I have a lot of work to do and there is no doubt it helps.

Japh- In a way you are right though, I could and will stop using Dex. ESSENTIALLY I am only using it to get good grades, just like some people take certain things in the body building world to help them achieve the physique they desire. However, just like with getting a better body, I don't just take drugs and expect marvels- I work hard and try and change my life habits (and have been doing a damn good job for the past 2 years).

Maybe its been good practise!

I am glad I read further before responding. Good luck to you.

My initial response was furious, as I have a child in school. I've seen too many parents prescribe their children with drugs just because "they won't sit still".

Good luck.

maybe take in extra ginger root (helps rise hunger for me) and make sure you atleast get your protein in, even protein drinks like Lipotropic, needtowhey ect.
