I'm having a hard time with ketosis ?

I have done the Dave P diet to a tee for over a week.
For the last few days I have even reduced the carbs.
IE: dropped the PB and the almonds.

I have used KETOSTICKS daily and there has been no sign of ketosis in my urine ?

My fiber source has been psyllium. Is this ok ?

I have had the odd diet cola can this affect ketosis ?

I use heavy cream in my coffee can this affect ketosis ?

Thanks for your input :tu

Why did you drop the PB and almonds ?

The heavy cream shouldn't effect it - NO Carbs in that.

Are you dropping lbs ?

I wouldn't worry to much about the keto sticks.

I am dropping weight.
Its's day 9 with one cheat meal last Saturday
I'm down to 258 from 271lbs.

Regarding the PB and almonds
I thought it might help speed things up by cutting out even more carbs

whipping cream has fat and no carbs - Any plan that I've been on lets you have whipping cream as cream - not milk or table cream.

I see what your saying , but I believe you want the fat from the nuts to help make the switch to burn fat.

How many trace carbs are in a handful of almonds ? Maybe 7g ? then you have some fibre too , so maybe not that many.

keto sticks are pretty useless. id say if you are following it to a t you are in ketosis to a certain degree

be careful with the diet sodas and sweeteners apparently they can throw some ppl out of ketosis immediately

The cream is fine...1 Tbsp in your coffee no problem. Put the PB and almonds back in you need the carbs to train with. Ketostix are useless for a training athlete...ketone bodies can be totally used up for fuel thus they dont show up in urine...this has no bearing on whether or not you are in ketosis. If you are running the Dave P diet you are in ketosis period...throw the ketostix in the garbage. You should also be on he diet for a full two weeks before having a cheat meal..this gives your body time to become accustomed to burning ketones for fuel and not glycogen...having a cheat meal too early will slow th process of getting back into ketosis after the meal.

Thanks P.

After being in ketosis for a period of two + weeks.
How long after a cheat meal does it take the body on average to return to a ketosis state ??

the ketosticks measure acetoacetate while the primary ketone is betahydroxybutyrate so you can be well in a ketotic state and still come negative on the strips.

While on the Dave P. diet can I eat the morning egg meal at the end of the day ??
I have never been a huge fan of breakfast so I had to ask the question.

MEAL #1
5 whole eggs (make sure to buy omega-3 EGGS from the supermarket. They contain virtually NO saturated fat and tons of good omega-3 fats); add another 4 egg whites to this (they don?t need to be the omega-3 ones; you can use liquid egg whites)

MEAL #2
SHAKE: 50g Whey Protein with 1 ? tablespoon of All Natural Peanut butter (no sugar)

MEAL #3
"Lean Protein Meal": 8oz chicken with 1/2-cup cashew nuts (almonds, or walnuts)

MEAL #4
SHAKE: 50g Whey Protein with 1 ? tablespoons of All Natural Peanut butter (no sugar added)

MEAL #5
"Fatty Protein Meal": 8oz Salmon, Swordfish, or RED MEAT with a green salad (no tomatoes, carrots, or red peppers) with 1 tablespoon of Olive Oil or Macadamia nut oil and vinegar

MEAL #6
SHAKE: 50g Whey with 1 ? tablespoon all natural peanut butter or 4 whole (omega-3) eggs and 4 extra whites

Sure you can. But make sure your having something at breakfast , even if it's one of the shakes.

Serious !
The only change I have made ! There has been a few days were I have had the lean meal in place of the fatty meal and visa versa !

I hope thats ok ?

I would rather have a shake with egg whites than cooking. Can you pour liquid egg whites in a shake ?

I have never been big on eating within the first hour of getting up !

I've seen several people not get into ketosis on this diet, and I believe it has to do with the low fat intake. On a regular Keto diet your fat is about triple what it is on this diet. I also think that's why I've seen so many people said they feel like shit on this diet.

That being said ketostix aren't the greatest, your body expels ketones in other forms than urine.

Could be a host of reasons but the reality is if people work with someone experienced in helping athletes using this diet approach the chances are that they are doing it right - in ketosis and don't feel like shit (all the times - you should feel like shit sometimes... its a diet!)

For interests sake, I'd like to know how you "saw" people not in a state of ketosis?

That whole sentence was exactly it. When I said "seen" I mean seen people in forums say they felt like shit. But I should have expanded that. Feel like shit almost all the time.

I've never done Dave's diet, but I've done CKD, and never felt like shit, and I would do this diet for pretty much years on end. Where as I've seen people say they can't wait for it to be over because they're so tired and drained.

And what's to say what's "right"? Dave simply took the CKD diet and modified it a bit. He didn't do anything ground breaking.

Having been around forums enough I am not sure I'd take the consensus from the general internet population moreover I question if they were doing the diet as designed or modifying it because they don't like "x" or "y", etc.

I have first hand experience with it and didn't have issues over and above the usual tiredness which goes into dieting in general when you are training for an hour or so + 2 cardio sessions/day. In fact, I've had less energy in general on low carb diets than on keto diets.

I've helped others with keto diets and I feel safe in assuming the same - not the diet causing the lethargy but rather the workload that goes into dieting period.

And what's to say what's "right"? Dave simply took the CKD diet and modified it a bit. He didn't do anything ground breaking.

No one is saying what is or isn't right. I'm certainly not nor am I suggesting Dave did anything ground breaking. I'll tell you what he did though. He A) Made it healthier by factoring healthy fats; and B) simplified it so even the stupid people could figure it out.

He also made it cheap enough so people don't go off due to lack of funds - Like a lot of other diets .

3 meals and 3 shakes - Can't beat that !

I dieted once and used keto. The results are great/constant. I've lost close to 50lbs in 5 months. I've heard few guys on carb/prot diets...adjusting qty/food type all the time. I'd rather do keto and cycle prot/fat and prot/veg when progress is slowing...and have a weekly cheat meal :D

Fair point. Same as when some little shit does a cycle and says it's fake becuase he didn't grow. Who really knows what they are doing with it. I guess I take peoples word on it when I've seen them in the forums for years.

He A) Made it healthier by factoring healthy fats; and B) simplified it so even the stupid people could figure it out.

A) The truth is the difference is minimal, and a CKD diet with bacon, eggs, cheese, etc., isn't as bad as it seems. (Studies to support)

B) Very true. I carb cycle and pretty much eat the same thing everyday, and it's so easy.
