Hi. Firstly, is this site affiliated with the CBBF; is it the CBBF?
-
I'm a photographer/ who is researching a documentary
on bodybuilding and have applied to do a 2nd Master's
degree in Documentary Media in Toronto. I plan on traveling
to Venice, California and to do a doc on the contemporary bodybuilding
scene at Golds (and World's Gym?) and Muscle Beach. -
Has anyone been there recently.
Does anyone plan on going there.
-
Is it still the Mecca of bodybuilding? Or are there anyother places that young, hard-core bodybuilders go to train and be the next sport's stars.
-
You can also email me directly to robbrown2005@yahoo.com.

Thanks, RB

cbbf.ca is the federation. CBB is a site that talks about everything bodybuilding in Canada, thus the name. Tons of competitors in the CBBF post and browse here. We also have guys/gals who just like to train and learn as well as powerlifters and strongmen.

I guess muscular development or rxmuscle will be a better resource as they are very focused on the US shows and the bodybuilding community there.

The MECCA of bodybuilding now is the internet. The culture of bodybuilding has changed dramatically in the last 50 years

i'm producing something very specific. i shot the Toronto Pro Invitational (i think that's what it was called) a few years back when it was at the Convention Center in T.O. the Doc isn't focusing so much on the US scene, as it is on Muscle Beach and the culture of bodybuilding as it exists there and at those famous gyms. i want to see if people still go there to make-it.

i've been following it since 1981. when you talk to most (or atleast many, many) bodybuilders, Arnold is still refered to as their inspiration and most of these guys could be his sons. i don't see how bodybuilding really exists what you mean by saying that the MECCA of bodybuilding is now on the internet?

If you've been following bodybuilding since 1981 but only have 6 posts here and don't know that the entire bodybuilding community has essentially moved to the internet then I'm guessing you've spent too much time reading Muscle & Development, Flex and the assorted AMI pap.
Arnold is fairly irrelevant and truthfully so is the IFBB, Weider and the rest of the circus. The vast majority of bodybuilders are not competing and a good portion won't be found in globo-gyms. The internet has become the mecca for bodybuilders who are trying to achieve health, fitness, longetivity, strength etc.
You are rehashing 50 year old content that is no longer relevant to the movement.
The circus that the IFBB represents is fun to watch (like a car wreck) but it doesn't represent what the vast majority of bodybuilders are trying to achieve.
There is a reason that the ifbb/npc are adding the men's and women's physique divisions as well as bikini and it isn't only a cash grab. The board of directors in these organizations have also realized that they have become irrelevant to all but a few hard core fans and 16 year old boys.
Don't mind me, I've seen 15 versions of the documentary you are making and as a historical piece it's an easy piece to write but it is simply not relevant to the current bodybuilding movement.

you are complete assuming what kind of documentary i'm doing and you haven't even met me. plus, there haven't even been 15 doc's produced on this subject matter. please name them all and refer me to their respective websites. i'm talking hardcore bodybuilding, not "fitness and wellbeing". in my opinion, this is not bodybuilding. also, how old are you? i saw my first show were Sergio Olivia was the guest poser (look him up!). Thanks for your help.

I believe tiramisu is in his 40ies. Newrob, would you be comfortable with giving us an outline of what you are trying to do? Maybe we can better help that way. There isn't a "gym" anymore that bodybuilders go to make it. Every area has the popular one that the big boys go to. From what I've seen, it seems still there are promotional stuff and photoshoots done at the old places. No one lives in a van outside the gym anymore either while trying to make it (at least I hope not).
