Hello everyone.. the question below is on behalf of a beautiful friend of mine who has set herself up for a lot of pain...
I was hoping for some additional advice and thank everyone in advance for feedback.

BACKGROUND: A friend of mine is going on a 3 week long bike tour through a developing country. Problem is, she has not trained one bit...

Facts:
She is 28 years old, slim, not physically active at all and not too knowledgeable about fitness. The trip will consist of 6+ hours of biking though a developing country with a tropical climate.
I believe that they will be riding 6 days a week, which leaves little time for recovery.

She is obviously setting herself up for significant, initial soreness and pain...
Even though there is no magic to this, she will be in pain, no matter what, I was hoping to provide her with a list of things/ supplements that will ease things slightly.

I've been thinking of anti inflammatories, sufficient fluid intake, good diet and stretching.. etc...

Do you have any more detailed suggestions or methods you would suggest to my friend??

Thank you

She better start with at least some spin classes.

When does she leave? How much time does she have for prep before the trip?

She has like a week.., lol.
She is obviously screwed and I am wondering how she is going to survive. Guess she got unlucky as she got pulled out to Europe for a big work project..
but there must be some simple tips that would slightl reduce the acid build up etc.. I hope.

If she has a week she should start spinning NOW.....twice a day, at least prepping her self towards the goal.

I would be starting supplements now to get them in her system. Vitamins, glucosamine, ect.

Double up on the Lance Armstrong Livewell bracelets and all will be good.

And maybe some of the same supplements Lance has been using.

I think the most important thing is for her to invest in a few pairs of high quality bike shorts.

You're right. That would likely be her next mistake.:)

Yup.. I suggested that to her. Used to work for a high quality sports apparel manufacturer and could get 50% off.. but she chose to go buy some bunk at MEC ( bunk due to being quite cheap and not being used by anyone I know for long rides)...
Wrong place to save.. ouch!
