Was talking to Branch when he came to town and he said that whatever he eats above 2000 cals/day he can claim the taxes on. Is this applicable in Canada??

I own a sports nutrition store so training/eating good is a must. My accountant says I can claim my gym dues but was unsure about groceries.

Any input is appreciated.

It doesn't suprise me he does this but I don't think you'd be able to get away with it as Branch would....He needs to be freakishly huge to make a living and this is where i see the difference. I know you could try to debate this with the gov't but i doubt you would win ....as for the accountant, i'd get a new one since he couldnt figure out a loop hole LOL

not applicable in canada. only in the USA

as for your gym dues. They are trying to make gym due or anything that falls under exercise tax deductable. But i am positive it hasnt been passed in the house yet. as i get emails from a company on items like this all the time. as the one this month still said it hasnt passed yet

Cheers!

I would think that you would have to prove that your full time income is a result of your gym membership. A 'burlesque dancer' can probably pull it off... A recreational or non-pro bodybuilder, probably couldn't... In any event, even if the gym membership was $50 a month or $600 per year, this would be pittance compared to what you'd end up getting back. It might just 'red flag' your tax file for closer audit. Definitely not something you want to experience.
