How many prison guards does it take to push an inmate down the stairs?
None, he fell.
So what should happen as a result of this incident?
What about the two guys that just stood there watching?

Nah it was just a joke....
I'm not even going to pretend to side with or against the RCMP officer who decided to beat that guy down. Obviously he was wayyyy out of line and this sort of thing cannot be ignored, but there is always two sides to every story and before I chastise this guy I would want to know both.
Maybe the guy was a rapist and after somehow seeing a picture of the RCMP officers daughter he was taunting him by saying he is going to get a piece of that ass once he gets out? If a similar situation faced you would you be able to maintain your cool or would you beat his ass too? I don't know to what extent I would be able to maintain my composure.
Or maybe the RCMP officer was just a power tripping prick and when this guy called him a "pig" he decided to take him out back and teach him a lesson.
Its hard to call without knowing the entire story. Either case is possible and something similar to both probably happens often. While I don't condone random inmate beatings, we are all human and there may have been extenuating circumstances leading up to this that are not being publicized, The media has a habit of posting one sided stories for shock value because lets face it, they are in the business of selling papers not reporting accurate information.

You sure show your character with a comment like that...
Because The police officers daughter and wife at home don't deserve a father because he made a poor judgement call on this occasion?
Flip side to your comment... How many inmates try and beat / kill officers? Maybe this douche attacked an officer previously with a knife or bat? Why are you standing up for him? Maybe it was time for his payback? I doubt this was his first offence. Lac La Biche where this occured is a VERY small and remote town in Alberta full of alcoholics and addicts that have nothing better to do than get drunk and cause violence. I would know. My best friend is an RCMP officer there. I know the kind of bullshit, violence and danger they deal with on a daily basis. It's not easy to police in remote towns with such a small detachment of officers.
That said.. I personally would hope to have exercised better judgement if I were that officer and let a cooler head prevail despite what ever crap caused this to happen. No person deserves to be beaten and there really isn't any excuse to justify this officers actions. I don't doubt that many inmates have severe mental health and psychological problems piled on top of addictions. One would hope that a healthy, intelligent and upstanding person could consider that and treat people with dignity and respect. If someone broke the law, they can serve their time in jail away from society. No need to cause physical harm... Especially if their mental condition and therefore actions are beyond their control.
I do hope this officer is punished. Totally unnecessary and inhumane treatment of another person. Unfortunately I see officers mis-treating people on a far too regular basis where I work as well...

Further to Zylo...good post by the way...Unfortunately people, until you walk in the shoes of the people involved, you don't really know what happened. The media sensationalizes these stories as they are shocking and "very newsworthy"...and they create the buzz like they have here.
What the officer did was wrong..period..but what happened to trigger it. There is no answer or set of facts that make it right but there may be a set of facts that will explain it..note I did not say justify it...explain it. Big diff.
I am familiar with the communtity where this took place and there are a lot of social issues and cases of escalated violence that the officers are exposed to routinely daily..again..that does not justify it.
Without knowing everything ...people make assumptions...like here.
How many of you have been unable to take ur spouse / girlfriend out for dinner etc in the town where you live as you may be harassed etc...what about ur kids...ur kids get hassled or beat cause say ur dad works for the ..lets say city works. Not many eh...how many of you have been in a fight..not a yelling or pushing match but an actual down and out fight where the person is trying to harm..or even kill you..not because the other combatant doesn't like you, in fact, they don't even know you. Just because you work for "city works"...
Some people just showed their true colors on here with their thoughtless and uninformed posts...I'll bet in real life ur big crybabies. Pump some weights, walk around with your lats flared...tough guy...first guy at the police counter with a busted lip or broken nose when someone calls you out after you were an asshole..I think I know you...
Cops...shitty job...see people at their absolute worst everyday...people that take 30 years to **** up their life with drugs, alcohol, crime etc and then call the cops when there is a problem and want them to fix it in 5 minutes.. but...still doesn't justify what happened here in this case.
This guy has a guilty verdict..whats coming to him is coming...probably lose his job, probably will not go to jail but maybe...but don't ****in judge him until you walked in his shoes.
Like in every job..there are good, bad and so so employees...cops too..there are lots of good..greatcops..out there that care and put it out there everyday for us...remember that and be thankful they are there when we need them god forbid we need them and lets hope that day when they respond they are not coming from a call where they were just spit on, called names, threatened, maybe assaulted...maybe his wife just left him too...who knows...lets just hope.
Its funny how when you are on a board like this and you watch people post up, you kind of form an opinion about them or think you know them a bit as we all have this common passion and commitment to what we love...the iron, bodybuilding, pushing ur body to the limits etc...some of the posts above... and I think you can figure out which ones... are out of line and total bullshit...maybe look in the mirror to see the real piece of shit...and then go to your job at whatever you do...I'm sure you're super good at it...and I'll be more frank..I don't really want to meet you and hopefully you think the same of me.
This is a bad situation and to reiterate, I'm not for a sec trying to justify it..its wrong...it happened and can't be changed and hopefully never again and all involved get punished...but know the facts before you start stating you hope he gets killed or you'd inflict harm on him yourself....

"What if he said this"? "What if he said that?" NO dialogue in that environment justifies such action. If people in positions of authourity are sensitive and reactionary to criminals taunting them they are weak minded and in the wrong profession. Other situations are different (read on).
The guy was in the drunk tank and beaked the officer... this happens all of the time. Police and corrections officers capitalize on their immunity in jails. I'm really surprised the complaint got that far and the video got out.
I ended up in the drunk tank (completely sober) during university after getting in a fight with 2 brothers at the bar. One had blindly bumped into my buddy's girlfriend making her spill her drink (and his) all over her... She said "Thanks asshole!" (could have been less confrontational..) he replied with "F*uck off slut" and shoved her out of the way. Well she went down and hit her head against the wall. His brother behind him laughed. I said, "Are you f*cking kidding me!?" He yells "What the **** are you gonna do about it?" I threw a haymaker outta left field into the guys eye knocking him down and continued to go after him while his brother jumped me. I leave the first guy and the brother and I go at it for all of 10 seconds before I was choked out by a bouncer and hauled out the front door.
Long story shortened... All 3 of us end up cuffed in a Police van parked out front with 2 other guys already in it from an incident 5 mins earlier. They come back in and remove the first guy I connected with really hard and hauled us off to jail. (interesting van ride) I was really angry because I thought they let him go but I learned later they had EMS attend to him and brought him down later... There was a lot of eyeballing and shit talking cause they put us all in the same holding cell, but we actually ended up banding together, lol.
While in the drunk tank I witnessed 3 people get hog tied and receive significant beatings for incessantly yelling and taunting the officers under the door. I got mine as well...The first time they came into the cell 4 of them tackled one guy while 2 others performed crowd control. A few of us stood up instinctively as they rushed the room and I had a sawed off corrections officer straight up charge at me yelling "sit the **** down!" repeatedly. I was replying with "ok, ok" with outstretched arms as he kept trying to trip me down. Then the other officers tackled me, knee on the neck, thumb behind the ear, tourqued a hard arm bar on me and cuffed me ultra tight. A number of the native guys in there were standing up for me saying I didn't do anything, and I hadn't.
I couldn't believe what I witnessed and experienced in there...Blatant physical abuse of detainees. Best part, there was a caged camera in the top corner of the room and it was pointed at the wall. The following Monday I filed a complaint that was barely acknowledged and I never heard back. I was then so busy finishing up my degree that I never pursued it further.

I honestly think this is a different situation. The basic right to refuse a search by the opposite gender is inherent here. Its also wrong for a bunch of cops to get their jollies off by ogling members of the opposite gender. For a loud mouth to get a beat down well that happens.
