Hi,

I injuried the tendon that attaches my hamstring to my glute in a 1/2 marathon last year. Now I find when I deadlift the next day the same spot is sore/tender when I stretch to touch my toes. Am I lifting too much? Or am I doing it wrong? Should I stop deadlifting and swap for something else? Not sure if it makes a difference but I weigh 130 and I am deadlifting 94 lbs, so it isn't a huge amount....

Thanks!

You'd have to figure out a way to get the injury taken care of if you want to be pain free. I wouldnt think you're lifting too much or doing it wrong if the pain is only on the side that you injured. I am in the same boat...And I think the injury might be similar (at least in location)...I haven't deadlifted in over 6 months.

I have been to pyhsio, and it was pretty much cleared up this summer (I thought!)..... Not sure why it came back as I haven't really done anything different.

You need to break up the scar tissue/adhesions that has formed around injured spot. This can be done thru massage therapy and/or by rolling on a foam roller (I would reccomend a piece of 4inch outside diameter PVC pipe or some sort of hard ball >>> this should hurt!!!!).

I tore my hamstring in the same exact spot on Oct 6th of this year, this week I'm back to full on training... Including deadlifts.

The point is the injury will not go away unless you attack the root cause. Physio is good but most practitioners don't do enought hands on scar tissue break up but rather just want to use some sore off ultrasound, electro-something rather device on you and perscribe rehab excercises.

Humm... that makes sense! Thanks! I find my foam roller doesn't get at it, but just after it happened I used to use a tennis ball and that worked pretty good. I haven't used the tennis ball in months. Thanks again!

Try using a lacrosse ball, its a lot firmer and really gets good and deep.
