This was a good event. About 20 novice male bodybuilders across 2 categories and 9 in the open across 2 categories. There were great trophies and tons of people in the audience (600 or so).
I competed in the Novice heavyweight category coming in at 175lbs for my first contest. I competed completly clean, nothing at all, not even diuretics on the day off. I placed 3rd in a tough division.
I was dissapointed with the leagues drug testin procedures. Out of 120 competitors they only TESTED 8!!!!! The winners for th emost part were not natural I tell you that. Regardless they need to implement better testing procedures if they are going to claim they are the most Natural league in North America.

These so called "Natural" organizations are businesses..they are created to turn a profit. It is not in their best interest to institute a very strict drug testing policy as it can cut into profit margins drastically. The policy they have in place is for political posturing only and suits the general public and naive competitors who actually believe everyone is drug free. If you are going to compete naturally kudos to you but please understand there will always be those who are not and they will usually be rewarded for it. As a drug free athlete the only competition you should be concerned about is with yourself.

Your totally right. They are businesses and businesses are about money. I knew of this before the contest and for me it was all about developing the best body I could and I think thats why those non-natural competitors did not bother me to much. I know if I was more conditioned I could have placed better, so for the next show its about me improving my body even if I come last.
BODYBUILDING IS A CRAZY AND FUN WORLD!!!!

yep, and you don't need drugs to win, even if like you say, some of the winners may not have looked natural.
Your shape looks good, and you look great from the side, good legs. You may have took first with another 4-5 weeks of dieting.

Thanks Steve.
Ya i agree with the more dieting part. With About 6 weeks left I looked at the scale and thought if I keep progressing like this ill weigh too little for the contest. I let my ego get in the way and decided to up my carbs all the way till the last week. If I would of kept my carbs at the same level I would of came in about 10 lbs lighter and alot more conditioned.
Heres a pic 6 weeks out:

I was at the show with one of my clients who competed in the open heavy's. They tested the top 3 in every class...after they got off stage they were followed around by an official and could not eat or drink anything (unless provided by the official) until they provided urine for a test and i guess the officials had to literally watch you piss in a cup (so you couldn't be shy). I'm actually very impressed with the way the show ran and how it was organized. I was also very impressed with the level of conditioning of the athletes.
Now can i say they were all Natural? No i can't say for certain however like the OPA they need to be clean at the time of the test.

They definitely did not test the top three. The two guys that came 1st and 2nd in my division didn't get tested but I did lol. The lightweight novice class tested the top two.
I to was impressed with the show and awards. But as I mentioned the drug testing policies were not effective.

Do you have any pictures of the guys who you think weren't natural? Just wondering out of curiousity.
Also something to keep in mind is that testing 8 people is better than no testing at all. To test even 1/4 of the athletes would make the contest far too expensive to compete in.

Unfortunately I don't. My thing is, if it is too expensive fine. But don't go and say you have very strict drug testing policies. You know what I mean?

You should consider checking out UFE. They have shows in the Toronto area and I like their drug testing policies. There will always be juiced up guys competing in natural shows. It sucks but it's reality.

Doesn't the IDFA use lie detector tests or have they advanced to urinalysis? I also was under the impression that they charged a fee for their drug tests?

They use neither, and they don't charge for their drug tests.

If they are conducting drug tests than one way or another you're paying for it.
