Have you always been an active person - did you play sports in your youth?
I have always been extremely active. I played all sports growing up but i never liked team sports as much as individual sports because I wanted to see how hard i could push myself. I was highly dedicated to cycling running swimming and triathlons growing up.

What made you get into bodybuilding/powerlifting competitions?
I started powerlifiting after winning local bench press contests that I entered just for fun and did my first bodybuilding show after a friend showed me a video of a bodybuilding competition and I figured I could beat the winner so I should enter.

How has the sport impacted your life?
The sport has not impacted my life because it is my life. Its what makes me want to get up in the morning each day. Ive managed to get a great sponsor in "MUTANT" and a few magazine covers as well and inside magazine exposure. Its also helped me become more credible as a personal training and nutrition consultant.

Who do you look up to in the industry and who has helped you along the way?
I first looked up to Rick Doucette (another CBB member) who was a bodybuilder in Yarmouth and still competes to this day.

Favourite foods for dieting? For cheating?
Dieting: Mutant Pro protein shakes with strawberries, Protein Pancakes, Spinach salad
Non diet: Ice Cream, hot hamburg fries and peas

Are there any sports supplements that you cannot live without?
Mutant Pro bars ( I eat at least 5 boxes a month)
Mutant Rage (Its basically like taking 5 supplements in one and gives me the intensity I need in the gym to lift crazy ass weights)
Mutant Pro protein powder ( i have 3 scoops at least 2 times a day both pre-contest or off season

Are you sponsored by a company? If so, who?
My sponsor Is "Mutant" check out iammutant.com

You compete in both powerlifting and bodybuilding events. How has one sport influenced the other? Did you first get into powerlifting then bodybuilding or did bodybuilding inspire you to lift really heavy weight?
When I first lifted weights I just wanted to be really strong and by age 13 I was benching more then all the high school kids. I entered an won local bench press contests but had not yet discovered that powerlifting was a sport. I then entered bodybuilding while continuing to get stronger in the bench press. At age 22 I finally discovered the sport of powerlifting and began squating lower and deadlifting. At my first powerlifting meet I broke the national bench press record yet got last place in the sqaut and deadlift. 13 years later my deadlift is approaching the world record because I kept at it year after year. I do not have great genetics for either powerlifting or bodybuilding what I do have is consistent dedication for 25 years.

Having been an active member on various bodybuilding and fitness forums for many years, what do you find positive about interacting with other members on them and what do you find negative?
The positive is that you can learn from other people and motivate each other to improve. The negative is that many people online are just out there to put other people down in order to feel better about there own lack of dedication

What is a typical day for you when prepping for a show?
Its really no different then when not prepping for a show aside from the extra cardio. I get up drink a shake eat a pancake and go to work. Eat my Tupperware meals at work come home eat again and then head out to the gym for about 2- 2.5 hours first doing a cardio warm up followed by lifting weights and then another hour or more of cardio before coming home to eat again and go to bed.

What do you find the most difficult about this sport?
There are only 2 things that make bodybuilding and powerlifting difficult, the final few weeks before a contest when energy levels are low, and staying motivated when injured. Other then that its easy because when you love something so much you'd rather do that then anything else. Honestly my days off from the gym are always my least favorite days.

When will we next see you on stage?
In 2012 I will be doing the NS provincials and Atlantics as a light heavyweight and then attempting to get my pro card at the 2012 nationals in order to compete as a 202 pro.

Mutant: Greg Doucette lbs for lbs worlds strongest bodybuilder.

Mutant background
I first began serious weight training at the age of 10 with my father and twin brother. Three days a week we trained our whole body using equipment that my father had made by hand. I used to love those training sessions and it is one of my fondest memories growing up. I always used to try and set personal records in the bench press and by the age of 13 was already pressing 230 lbs while weighing under 130 lbs.

What first sparked my interest in bodybuilding was actually an episode of “That’s Incredible” where a 13 year old was competing in bodybuilding competitions. I remember saying that one day I would become a champion bodybuilder, everyone laughed because they knew how much I loved junk food. That just further motivated me and once I hit age 17 I knew I was ready and entered and won my first bodybuilding competition. I first began power lifting competitions at bars, where I was beating grown men as a teenager. In my first official power lifting meet I set the national record in the bench press for both juniors and seniors on my opening attempt completing 342 lbs at 148 lbs bodyweight raw. Since then I have gone on to set numerous national records in power lifting and WPC raw world records in the bench press and total. I have competed in nearly 100 power lifting and bodybuilding competitions to date.

Future goals:

Powerlifting: I will be competing at the WORLDLIFTING Raw power lifting competition on Dec 18 in Moscow/ Russia against the best lifters from all power lifting federations in the world. I will also be competing at the WPC nationals and WPC worlds in 2011. I hope to set more world records.

Bodybuilding: I plan to hit the stage at the 2012 NS provincials, Atlantics and CBBF Nationals where I will be gunning for the overall title and a pro card in order to compete in the new 202 pro bodybuilding division. I am taking 2011 off from bodybuilding to grow and set more powerlifting records.

I'm into powerlifting at the moment and I'm following your career. Your powerlifting pics motivate me to push for my best. Not nearly as strong as you but I'm getting there!! Thanks for the interview.

Hey MP,
I think we as a site should sponsor Greg to go down to the NY or Conneticut and compete in Rxmuscle.com's BRo's vs. Pro's contests. Dave Palumbo sets these up. Its either bench, squat or deadlift , sometimes other stuff like curls..etc.
But i think Greg could win the deadlift and the Bench one for sure. HE could wear a CBB.com shirt or something. Anyways the prize pool is like 2-3 grand. I haven't seen any canadians participate other than one woman in the female divison. Here is the link:

Yeah, I just saw the results, derek poundstone did 405 for 36 reps on deadlifts. Its kinda silly to think he can only do that many, since I could probably get 25-30 and I am half the guys size. Greg would likely get more than 36. Even Guys like ben white are only getting 20...

Guess I am better at deads than I thought - or at least reps.
