New Men’s Physique Division

Beginning in 2011 a new division for men will be introduced – Men’s Physique. The following are the guidelines/rules.
Judging Criteria:
Muscularity and Body Condition
Judges will be looking for fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition. This is not a bodybuilding contest so extreme muscularity should be marked down.
Stage Presence and Personality
Contestants will be asked to walk in board shorts (shorts must be just above the knee in length and can be one inch below the belly button, no spandex and no logos are permitted on the board shorts however a manufacturer’s logo such as Nike symbol or Billabongs are acceptable.) Competitors will enter the stage without a shirt and barefoot. No lewd acts allowed for example the moon pose. Judges are looking for the contestant with the best stage presence and poise who can successfully convey his personality to the audience.

COMPETITION JUDGING

Presentation:
Competitors will walk to the center of the stage alone and perform quarter (1/4) turns with optional pose of hand on hip or hand in pocket, face the judges as directed then proceed to the side of the stage.
Comparison Round –
The competitors will be brought back out in a group and directed to do quarter turns
Judges will have the opportunity to compare competitors against each other in quarter turns.
Promoters can choose to have one class or two. For contests with two classes:
Up to including 5’8”
Over 5’8”
National level contests do not permit competitors to crossover into Bodybuilding. All other competitions are permitted to have crossovers at the discretion of the promoter with district chairperson’s approval.

Who Qualifies for National Level Men’s Physique Competitions:

Competitors that place in the top five (5) in each class at national qualifying contests will have a one year qualification for national level events.
Note: For 2011 a place in the top five (5) of any Men’s Physique contest will qualify you for national level contests.

I hope this fails before it jumps into canadian shows. I feel like the IFBB shows are losing their routes and turning into every other new federation out their.

They don't need to do so either. Seems like they are taking the 'if you can't beat em, join up' approach....But I wouldn't say they were getting beat. I dunno, if they said bikini was a joke, imagine what they will say about this.

C'mon guys..you all want to swagger out there and throw out your hip...and then bring that hand up onto your hip and do a bit of a spin...I was actually starting to buy into the womens physique thing after doing a bunch of research and reading Betty Pariso' exerpt on RX muscle.....but this...this is complete and utter bullshit. Why can't we wear heels too...lol

I can't wait to see a show with this...and to see who has the nuts to go in this...no offence anyone but I think they might have something like this in the ...pride..world games or something like that...keep it there... and let the bodybuilders keep their own shows.

Throw this thing and the bikini into Fame or model search...something... but not in any show that comes under a "bodybuilding sanction"...

I'm willing to bet it will be very popular but I also find it a bit disappointing.

Au Contraire mon Ami!! I have collected a whole slew of them already! and it's only been an hour!!

"Boy" is tops of the list...
Quadzilla will be another!

However I think the winner so far is "Spicoli"..

The issue is it dilutes the sport...what was once a hard core athletic endeavour now becomes mainstream, modern modeling type contest...its the same as IFBB bikini...trust me that is no sport. I was in Detroit with a client for the Detroit Pro 202 and happen to catch the Bikini contest...I was embarrassed for the women to say the least...yeah they were hot etc but it was nothing more than glorified stripping wearing a bikini.

lol, I'm going to go find my board shorts, I may just be able to win this event because it looks like there might not be much competition!

This is my chance to finally become a pro bodybuilder without actually doing it!

I concur with most the sentiments expressed on this thread...but the unfortunate reality is that if it's happening in the US, It is only a matter of time folks before we have to endure yet another painful painful divison at the "physique" shows here in Canada. Sadly, this mainstream crap will likely get more media recognition than BBing ever has in the past. Im not sure if I completely agree that the Classic division is in fact Male Figure...however by limiting the amount of muscle a male BB has in relation to their height seems to indicate that that is where we are headed!

That's what I thought too. Board shorts will hide underdeveloped legs.
Seriously though, this thing is a joke.

LOL some funny comments on this topic. But in all seriousness i wouldnt compare classic bodybuilding to mens physique. Mens physique is a display of FIT men i guess you could say as Classic Bodybuilding is actually a very serious division with hardcore competitors. They really are not the same in any way except the height thing but it really makes no differnce. Just dont want ppl to confuse hard working bodybuilders who bust there ass in classic to some board short wearing beach boy.

Don't be alarmed yet. I saw a bit of the casual contest they had at the olympia, and from what pictures I have seen as well, the top competitors in this division are going to be pretty built. Like my size....or possibly even bigger.

This contest will favor us tall muscular guys with long limbs and good jaw lines, over the short stalky types.

As I have said on another board, I am off to get my botox injections! lol!

classic bodybuilding is not really hard core bodybuilding either. Even most drug free competitors who train hard for a number of years will be too be for classic physique. Classis is basically a competition for those who cannot place well in the open class. Musclemania has had the mens figure style board short competitions for many years. I watched a comp once with about 100 guys in it and some of the guys were much bigger then I was.

The return of the Rory Leidelmeyer physique?Back in the early 80's when Rory and Tim Belknap faced off there was quite a split in opinion on which look was better for the sport.
