Hi all,

Well, for a long time I was envious of my American friends who were able to buy the liquid pasteurized egg whites over there via their Egg Whites International, who cannot ship here.

Now, we Canadians have a source too! I read about this on another fitness forum and checked it out. I was very pleased.

The company is called EggSel. Here's the link (they revamped their website and logo too, which is much better!):
http://www.eggsel.com/

Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Eggselcom/157260104294922?ref=ts

They sell the egg whites from 1/2 case to full cases (discounts on "2 full cases" and "3 full cases"). Each full case (about 26lbs) has four 3.1 liter containers about 7" x 7" square. LOTS of egg whites in each! The whites are 100% bio-available and they're flash-frozen and shipped that way, delivered next day by UPS. They're shipped from Brantford, ON. where their warehouse is located.

They had a promo which ended last week (it was for a Jay Cutler show) and I barely made it for that sale (it was 1 case for $49.99 including shipping---hope they do a sale again). Regular price is $64.95 (Ontario) and $73.99 (outside Ontario). Price includes taxes and shipping!

************
I was just going to post the links, but since I've already tried the product and experienced their service, so I'll write about that too.

I ordered last Tuesday (I paid by PayPal), picked my case up at the UPS store down the street the next evening. I was at a client's office all day and can't get deliveries there. The case was well-packed, tight (styrofoam insulation inside) and each container is individually wrapped in clear, sealed plastic bags.

I even got a free T-Shirt with their new logo on it. :D

***
I placed my first container in the fridge immediately to thaw, to use it for that coming weekend. It took about 2-3 days (as they recommended) but had a few tiny bits of ice still, as I was anxious to try it over the weekend :D).

My Personal uses (only 2 days) so far:

With Protein Shake
On Saturday, I tried it with one of the TrueSupplements samples (Vanilla) I received the same week and it was fantastic! Just the protein powder and the egg whites. No water or anything. Easy to mix. I just used a shaker cup and drank it straight down, no problem---great texture and taste, going down. :)

With Pancakes
On Sunday, I also used them with my weekend 5-grain, blueberry pancakes that I usually make. This time, instead of water, I blended my pancake mix with pure egg whites. I'll tell ya, those pancakes tasted great, and I noticed how much fluffier/thicker they were too. Very easy to mix. Filling doesn't even describe it. I Washed it down with a protein shake.

I had no digestive problems whatsoever with the shake or the pancakes. I haven't had a chance to make my omelettes or scrambled eggs yet with it, but I'll save that for next weekend. :) Right now it's with quick protein shakes every day.

Once thawed, they recommend using it up in 14 days. My current case has a "Best Before" date of August 2011, so that gives you an idea of how long you can store your egg whites in your freezer before thawing. :)

Anyway, I'm still ecstatic that there's even a place in Canada that makes and sells this stuff! More details are at the site (they even have a research and recipes page) and they're very accessible if you have any questions or suggestions. Great communication via email and on Facebook too! That's one thing I'm very picky about. I haven't used their website form yet, or contacted by phone, but I'm sure they're just as accessible that way as email. I hope they get plenty of customers so they stay in business.

Hopefully those of you interested in liquid egg whites will check EggSel out and describe your experiences with them.

How does this compare to the costco prices?

Those whites come in 3 packs of 500ml containers for $3.69? Or is it $4.69?

Who can answer this and do the math on it?

Mr.Freeze

if i remember correctly at costco its
4.69$ for 48 egg white= 0.10cent per egg
and here (eggsel)
189.95$ for Three Full Cases (1116) egg white= 0.17cent per egg
not much of a deal.

I used to buy those Costco egg whites too, in the 3-pack containers right? I haven't been there in a couple of years, so I don't know if it has changed, but... As far as I remember, those are still unpasteurized, right? Raw?

If so, these Eggsel ones, are pasteurized/liquid (reducing Salmonella risk and Avidin, and still have all the nutrients) so you don't have to cook them first, 100% bio available/no additives, digestible and people can safely use them straight out of the container or into their shakes, or whatever. They last longer in storage, and after you open them.

Yes, the price already includes shipping, but it's how one can consume them, how they're made, and convenience that got me personally sold.

Just an option for those who can't always do "raw" whites, and not having to always cook them. It all may or may not be worth it to some. :)

Costco egg whites are pasteurized. If Mr. Freeze's stats are correct I know I'll be sticking with Costco. And why does this sound like free advertising. If Eggsel would like to purchase advertising space from CBB please have them contact MP. This is your first and only warning.

did the same calc as Mr. Freeze and I got the same thing. (I posted this on another board)

I calculated it and its not cheaper then buying at a grocery store.

I buy 12 x 500ml egg white cartons a week @ $2.49 each = $29.88

each carton has 16 egg whites so that equals to 192 egg whites for $29.88

and these are pasteurized.

so compare that to Eggsell (half a case) 186 egg whites for 39.95

I like the Idea of the website, its to bad its more expensive :(

I have been using Eggsel eggwhites for a while and love them! I live 30 minutes from a Costco but by the time I add up the gas and the time of going there, its more convenient just to order from Eggsel. If Costco would ship to you, I'd bet it would be a lot more expensive than Eggsel.

I guess if you live right beside a Costco its worth it, but since there are only a limited number in larger cities only, I'm guessing most Canadians don't have this luxury. Also, who buys a half a case anyways.. I know I for one will be sticking with Eggsel.. Eggsel Rocks!!

:-O Whoa! I was NOT doing advertising (for free or otherwise) for EggSel. I don't know them or work for them either. Someone mentioned in this thread they'd been using them for a year? I didn't even know about them until a little while ago, read up on them and only bought the stuff a week ago on sale. All I did was share my experience on here. When Googling, I read a lot of Canadians on forums were looking for the same as me -- where to get the pasteurized stuff in bulk in Canada. I asked where I should post info on this. I sure wouldn't have done this if it would be assumed it were deliberate advertising. :(

I just ordered from Eggsel for the first time. They shipped it yesterday morning, it should have arrived today but it didn't (although I live way out in Thunder Bay ON). Regardless, with the special, 27lbs (12.4kg) of egg whites (372 egg whites) for $50 dollars (shipping included) is a decent deal.

I usually just buy 15 doz whole eggs for $19.50 locally, but figured I would try out eggsel. We also don't have a Costco here. I used to get them from Superstore, but they have raised their prices. However, I find drinking raw pasterized egg whites gives me terrible smelling gas. I assume the same thing will happen from the Eggsel egg whites.

Hi and welcome to the site. I believe eggsel is closely tied to the bb community in the Toronto area. I'm going to let the thread ride as no one offers this on the site. CBB has a lot of forum veterans that know the way it works to promote stuff on forums and usually it's in this manner. Not saying this is the case but it's like this it's usually done so you may get a small backlash.

Since it's probably someone from the bb community, I'm going to let the thread ride. Also because it's the first time I see someone try this type of business. If it gets out of hand I'm going to close it down and only allow it to be promoted if they sponsor the site (get a banner or banner/forum).

Thanks for reporting it the rest of you. Not reading the threads as much as I started to work on the new batch of profiles for the National Level competitors and that's keeping me very busy.

I was not aware of that Toronto community connection either (I'm not really "in" a bodybuilding community per se---I'm new at that too). I understand now about how the post would look. When I write about my experiences with anything I share on- or offline it's usually organized, whether personal or for my own work. Heck, I sometimes produce instructional material. I admit I was may too excited and should have asked about what I was going to post (not just ask where to post it, like I had done)...

I appreciate your offer to keeping the thread open, but... since I'd initiated the thread, I certainly would not object if it actually were locked or removed if that's what's usually done here. I also appreciate your welcome and your explanation.

I don't blame you pmbpro.. I'm the same way, when I see something I like that I think will benefit others, I can't seem to keep my mouth shut and just have to pass it on..

If you check the Eggsel.com website, as a result of comments and suggestions, they have apparently sweetened the deal. Its now 372 egg whites for $59.95 delivered. Nice to see our voices are heard. :-)

Yes this is a bit more than Costco, but then again this is delivered, and as we all know, shipping is not exactly cheap. Try ordering just one 2 pound jug of protein from bodybuilding.com if you don't believe me :-)

One other thing @physique 2 litres contains 64 egg whites at $8 is $0.13 per liter so its not cheaper than Costco.

Peace :-)

your math is flawed. 2000ml is 2 liters. for $8.

2000mls at costco is $9.96 (500ml x 4 cartons = 2liters, and costco is $2.49 per 500mls. so $2.49 x 4 is $9.96)

You have the number of egg whites right, but your math doesnt add up.

Just as an update. I received my order from Eggsel. It arrived the next morning. However, since it was a day late, I was given a full refund (I didn't even ask). Good customer service, if I must say.

My costco has the 3 pack (3x500mL) of egg whites for $4.69

So you get 3 litres for $9.38

Nah dude, its 1.5L for $4.69. That makes the 500ml cost $1.56 each.

Not to mention that the half case from Eggsell is 186 egg whites and the suggested life on these is 14 days in the refrigerator. The math on that works out to be 13 egg whites per day consistently for two weeks. If you're not eating that many whites, it's likely not worth your while to purchase them in this manner. Their customer service is excellent and the product does ship fast. I've only ordered from them once but I wondered what would happen if I missed the Fedex delivery? I'd likely have to go and pick it up from the depot that same day as if I waited any longer, the egg whites would be thawed already... Even if it cost a little more at the grocery store, I think I'd rather purchase them there...
