If you want to work on the rigs than you should take any job you can get and this means travel.

Long days, long weeks, and brutally hard work. They make good money.

decent money....its 12 hr shifts, 1 wk days, 1 wk nights.....on the drilling side anyways. The work now days is easy as hell compared to back when I started on them.

This fall will be a good time to get into it as it will be a busy winter in Ab or Sask trust me. Just pick up the oilfeild book and start calling ASAP

Don't kid yourself though. For an unskilled labourer it is serious hard work and newbs get hurt.

That said, as I'm already doing 68 hours a week of heavy construction building a fertilizer plant in hell if anyone can hook me up I'd appreciate it.

they'll pay for you to take your tickets if they're interested in hiring you....your best bet by far would be to show up in person.....then they feel more secure about a guy being for real in wanting the job ;)

...best of luck to ya

I saw heavy construction labour rates @ $20+ per hour but didn't see any wages quoted for any of the entry level gas and oil positions.

It is not That hard of work anymore these days.....If you do not have common sense, dont go...If you are full of common sense, then you will be fairly safe...There is danger in anything...If you have ability to recognize risk, and control the hazards, its a cake walk most times....
Lots of work....

All figures represent hourly pay rates.

Driller $40.20
Assistant Driller $35.00
Derrickhand $34.00
Motorhand $28.50
Floorhand $26.40
Leasehand $24.00

This wage schedule was developed on the basis of survey material and is intended to apply to both 8 and 12 hour shifts.

Camp* $50/Man/Day
Non-Camp** $140/Man/Day
*$17.50 is non-taxable

**Non-taxable for payroll purposes if the individual employee maintains a principle place of residence and works 80 kilometers from his principle residence, for at least 36 hours.

***Employers cannot claim Goods & Services Tax (GST) Input Tax Credit (ITC) on the meal portion of the subsistence rate if the rig is working within a 30-kilometre radius of a city of at least 40,000 people.

Also you have to look at it this way.

Anything over 80hours in 2 weeks is overtime. If working a 12 hour shift you will burn up 80 hours in 6.5 days ( $1872 ) Then you have 7.5 days left at double time which is $4320 . This is $6192 in two weeks for the lowest paid guy. Not too bad even after the government take 45% .

If you stick to it a person can move up very quick.

And now we all know why gas is so high at the pumps. The circle of life , you make more you pay more. It's all relivant.

When my father in law started on the rigs he was making just over $2 an hour a house was $40,000 and a nice car was $5000. Now you make over $20 and a house is $200,000 and a nice car is $40,000. But it makes people feel better to know they are making more money.

But that's another topic all together...

**** GymBrat how old are you anyways ? LOL :)

As GB said , rig jobs now are sooo much more slack than they used to be , you have trash pumps now (no digging ditch or paddling shale) , you cant run on location , if you get hurt there is no more working through it , paper work out the ass if you do get hurt , drug and alcohol tested (back in the day we would close out the bar , set alarm on watch and go to a house party...watch goes off its time to go to work) in a sick way i actually miss working rigs......
