PUMP YOUR CHEST FOR BREAST CANCER!

"Project Echo, the Manitoba Moose Hockey Club, Power 97, Elite Performance Centers and Leigh Mollison, nationally ranked bodybuilder and former Ms. Manitoba, have teamed up to bring Breast Cancer awareness to MTS Centre on Friday, October 22, 2010.

The Moose, who have dedicated October to Breast Cancer Awareness, will host Pump Your Chest for Breast Cancer from 12noon-6pm in the MTS Centre south concourse at the Encore Music Game Night Stage (beside Tim Hortons). This is the first ever charity bench press contest in Manitoba in support of Breast Cancer. Challenge your friends, co workers, cross town rivals or just yourself and see how much you can lift! There will be prizes for the winners of each men’s and women’s event.

A minimum donation of ten-dollars is required to participate in Pump Your Chest for Breast Cancer. All proceeds will be donated to Keeping Abreast, a local charity that fundraises for research, state-of-the-art medical equipment and education about breast cancer and the benefit of reconstructive surgery. Volunteers from Keeping Abreast will be on hand to provide tax receipts.

That evening the Manitoba Moose will host Ladies’ Night as they face the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7:30pm to cap off a month dedicated to raising Breast Cancer Awareness. For the game, fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink to show their support. There will be in-game auctions and limited edition Manitoba Moose Pink merchandise on sale with all proceeds also going toward Keeping Abreast."

So.. basically... its a fundraiser for Breast Cancer with a bodybuilding Twist!! It's TOTAL WEIGHT pushed!! in one set... so if you pump out 100 reps with 100 pounds... your "score" is 10000 lbs!

I Invite/ challenge everyone in Winnipeg to come down, drop 10 bucks and throw up a number!! Im planning on BREAKING 6000 pounds! (if you're not in winnipeg and want to donate... I'm working on setting up an account through paypal) PS.. I plan on winning!! lol

Just a quick update on this...
the event happened yesterday, and the fundraiser made over 6000 dollars for breast cancer!! so it was a SMASHING success!!

My goal was to press 6000 pounds... and I pressed 6300!.. then Tank (2 time miss manitoba in Bodybuilding and figures...) came by and kicked my ass... so I went BACK and gave it a second try.. I didn't catch Tanya (Tank)... who pushed 8550 lbs... My second attempt I pushed 7830 pounds.. which was enough to earn me second place! (third was just under 6000.. well my scores actually put me in second AND third.. lol and i was the only one stupid enough to try it twice! and im a little sore today! HAHA)

the guys soon realised that my "push the bar till you die" method was very successful... a couple powerlifters came down and tried it, but couldn't catch 165 pound, Kurt Gibson (Eco-racer/ marathoner) who pushed a whopping 21,240 pounds. (that's right, he pushed the bar 472 times!!)

last guy to push was manitoba powerlifting champ Ryan Espey.. who opted for the bar push to failure... he doubled Kurt in body weight, and squeeked out a few more reps than kurt with a MIND BLOWING 22,725 pound set!

all in all, very neat event! good turnout, great fundraiser and alot of fun!!

I think if I were to plan something like this I would do 50% bodyweight for max reps... then its just a rep out.. a little more "fair"

5 km, 20 mins 36 seconds,

that's REALLY fast. You should train for running - for real. That, or triathlons, etc. With a run time like that even if you were training a little already - I am sure you'd make an awesome endurance athlete.

Told you...lower weight, more reps - its the best method. If you were to plot a graph of it at 90% of your max for reps, 85%, 75% and so on, all the way down to almost none, you'd see the total weight go up and up pretty consistently. Not linear, but as a power function.

Great job!

One of the private gyms in Calgary should host something like this!
