Anyone know of any good gyms in Kingston Ontario? I've only looked around a bit, but it looks like just the Queen U gym, Goodlife and the YCMA.

What area of town will you be living in?
West end has:
progress fitness: Not very busy, they have a ton of equipment and free weights, db's up to 120. Only complaint is some of the equipment is a little older.

Omega: Brand new "fitness club". They are not really BB friendly though as they don't even have rubber flooring under their free weight section and db's only go up to 90lbs. Manager doesn't believe anyone should be using anything more than that..... lol. Everything is brand new though.

Premier fitness: nuff said.

Goodlife 24hr: Brand new, just opened a week or two ago. I haven't been in it yet but I drive by it often and it always looks packed.

East end:
YMCA: Two locations, the main one and another smaller (but nicer) one at the local college. Main location is busy, but they have a good selection of equipment and db's up to.... 130? Maybe heavier, been a while since I was there. College location is dead before noon, and gets busier until 5 when you can't move anymore. They have a smaller selection of equipment, but 1 of most things you would want and db's up to 140lbs. Also the college location has all nice rubber coated plates and db's, the main location has a mess of old metal shit.

Queens: I heard they have pretty much the best gym in the city and definitely the only one with Olympic lifting platforms. I also heard they always have a HUGE circle jerk of guys who want to get laid doing bicep curls and getting in the way at peak times. But most gyms do haha.

Sorry I don't know anything about any others. Is parking a concern for you? If I knew more what your looking for in a gym I might be able to be more helpful.

Thanks for the help so far.

I'm leaning more towards the East end. Weller/Kingscourt area. I was interested in the Queen's U gym, I figured it would be at least okay... Though I'm not surprised at the circle jerk shit. And places like that don't always have the best hours...

Parking's not really a concern.

Is cost or contract a concern?
I'm not 100% sure about the Queens gym, but other then that the Y is the only one in the city that gives you a good monthly rate without a 1yr contract. I believe the Y is also the cheapest in the city period. I again cannot recall the details, but I remember a guy telling me the cost of the Queens gym and I thought to myself it was by far the most expensive in the city (for non students).

Also the Y membership is good at both locations in Kingston and I believe at least all in Ontario, maybe Canada as well.

My sister had a membership at the goodlife downtown and she said it was pretty much a shit hole and the Y was her only comparison so it must have been bad haha.

I had a buddy who used the Queens gym while we were in college and he loved it. From what I hear its the nicest in the city... not surprising since they own most of the money in the city though. The only bad thing he had to say about it was that there were a lot of "queens douche bags" in there lol.

You in town for school?

Cost... well nothing above $70/ month
Contract, not really a concern if the gym's good.

I looked up the Queen U gym is $54/ month no contract, $45 with. So that's not too bad...

All the Y's I've been to have been alright... old equipment, and not much of it but still passable.

No. Kingston just looks like a nice place to live.

Thanks for the help so far

Nothing in Kingston cost more than that so your good.

Thats actually really good, I thought it was much more then that for non students. As far as I know that's actually second cheapest next to the Y. Most other places are stupid with no contract (like $80 per month) or $20++ bi weekly with contract.

Kingston's Y is actually fairly well equipped, and has nice good quality oly BB's, but like you said a lot of the equipment is fairly old.

It is, so much eye candy when the schools are in!
