Ok so before when I measure out my rice I would just use a measuing cup.

So the box says 1/2 cup (43g) = 150 cals, 34 carbs

Here's the problem. i just bought an electronic scale, and when I weigh out 43g's and dump it in the measuring cup, it's nowhere near a half cup. So what gives? What is the right measurement? The 1/2 cup mark on the cup, or the 43g's from the scale, that doesn't come to a half cup?lol

1/2 cup measures out to about 100g on my scale - so about twice what your label says it should be. This is dry measure.
When you go to www.caloriegallery.com 1/2 cup is about 350 cals and so is 100 g (approx). So I would say that your box is wrong.

This is a good example of why it is very important to weigh out your food every time .

Hell I use to even weigh out my scoop of protein powder and it would be different with the different brands.

I found this too, some brands just seem fluffier and even with the exact same scoop their can be as much as a 5g difference. Not a huge amount, but considering that's out of 30g its a pretty big %.

Ya this is what I discovered. I basically have to double the boxes measuremnet to get a true half cup. So around 100g's like you. Dry measure aswell.

nutritional labels give me a mental breakdown. i swear a large percentage of them are straight up wrong... i mean not even close.

you can pick up 2 different bags of the same food and the labels will give you totally different information for the same serving size.

there is brown rice at costco that claims 1/2c raw rice is 7g carbs.... its not special rice

i think if the government is going to require food labeling (which i think they should) there needs to be more control over it and more guidelines. example: all rice should be displayed in the same serving size and state (1/2c raw for example)

Yup..i was friggin surprised as well when i decided to measure my oatmeal for the first time. The half cup gram thing was NOWHERE close to what it was saying on the label and i honestly felt i had ****ed up my diet.lolll.

Like others stated, weigh your food and you will get the right measurments/calories.After a while, once you've done this several times, you'll be able to eyeball it with extradordianry precision.
