So.. I have decided to start a real journal thing instead of piggybacking a journal onto a picture like I did before!
Life has taken a few turns. I am currenly 2 weeks past Canadian Nationals for fitness... and 222 days until Canadian Nationals Natural Physique, where I hope to compete in Fitness.
My plan was to switch to bodybuilding this year, however, I am currently dealing with alot of personal issues and do not feel i will be able to give what i need to give to be my best for bodybuilding THIS YEAR!!.. I still have the plan of 2012 to swith to BB, but I need somehting to focus energy on for 2011... so Fitness it is!
I will be training with jeff fisher out of Elite performance centers again. However, I will not be training AT Elite, so I wont have the luxury of having a trainer to spot me every day any more.
I have an idea for a costume and theme for my fitness routine... hopefully I can make this happen!
It is my daugter's graduating year. She is planning on leaving the country after grad. I am planning on moving and a carreer change this year, along with taking some classes and training.. so I'm not sure if I can even fit it all in. I will be trying to until the end of October (my mini timeline) then Ill have to make some big decisions on if I can continue doing it "all".
Diet tomorrow... got me some salmon, beef, potato, rice, oats, banana and a handfull of vitamins a day!.. I've managed to do a bit of damage in the past two weeks since nationals... I blame peanutbutter...
222 starting tomorrow...

I'm subscribed for the updates!
On another note, although you just competed in the Nationals, isn't the stream for Naturals different?
for example yesterday was the Ontario Natural Provincials qualifying athletes to compete at the National Naturals next year.
Pretty sure you can'y jump from one stream to the next. unless you competed in both provincials.

Good morning DK!! lol
Im qualified for both! Mabba only has one stream and it's a "tested" event... I competed at novice in a tested year and won.. so Im qualified.. or somehting like that! haha
heading to gym now! just finished steel cut oats (if anyone has never had steel cut oats and has some bowel issues.. TRY EM!! like little colon brooms!... eewwwww) 6 egg whites, some vitamins and black coffee
gonna do mostly shoulders and abs.. but my programs are never a regular split like most people follow... I only have half hour cardio a day which is NICE!!

many/ most provinces don't have 2 streams. In NS, you just need to place top 5or something to be able to do the world qualifier...its a bit funny if you think you placed 6th and aren't qualified, when those that beat you were using something...However in smaller provinces, especially natural guys, you will likely be in the lighter weight classes, and unless you can compete with the best in your province, you probably won't fair too well at the WQ regardless. And considering small provinces tend to not even get 5 in each class, qualifying usually isn't too tricky.
In ontario however, a natural guy wouldn't have too much chance at top 3 unless you were light middle or below.

Steve i know we're beating this Erik thing to death but this brings up a whole other problem. In order to become pro you need to work your way up the ranks from local level or regional level, to the provincials before Nationals then overall for your card. Erik did this and recieved his pro card in 1998. (which is awesome BTW, clean or not). Now if he made his comeback in one of the smaller provinces that doesn't have a seperate provincial show for the Natural stream then he'd have to start at a local/regional show in the non tested stream first. I personally don't care about the natural/ geared argument, that's not my concern. What i think is unfair is an IFBB pro (former IFBB pro, whatever) competing in a level 1 show. It's just not right. Also since the non tested stream is the way to turn pro it seems even more unfair. We're only allowed by provincial regulations to go down one level to compete. If he were in a small province he'd be stepping down 3 or 4 levels. ugh............................................... .................................................. .................................................. ...........................Once again let me say that Erik has an amazing Physique, a great personality, seems like a really nice guy and i'm not bashing him personally by any means, just questioning the rules that allow him to compete in the OPA again. (tested or not)
PS sorry Drvgrl for posting off topic on your thread.

Its a really tough question I suppose...he has the right to work up the ladder in the non-tested stream. But how fair would it be to simply let him compete at WQ without qualifying? Technically they could simply have a decision to let him do so...but then there would be the same arguments about him competing at WQ...I am sure his plan is to go to worlds, and I think he should have every right to compete at worlds, and since there is a tier system in place, he would have to do it the same way as everyone else. If not, there would be just as many complaints of him getting special treatment getting allowed to go to worlds without competing at WQ.
Bodybuilding is a funny sport. Let's look at powerlifting for a sec. A powerlifter to compete at nationals would have to do provincials each and every year he wants to do nationals. So your provincial contests are filled with elite guys. If you didn't have to re-qualify so to speak, you could win provincials without even being close to the best in your province. I am not saying bodybuilding is wrong, its just different. Imagine our ontario provincials if we didn't have "byes" in place?
For the record, I think the tier system we have is pretty bang on, and couldn't really be changed to be much better. This erik thing is definitely a kink to think about, but the way I see it is if he wants to do worlds (as he has every right to), he has to do it the same way as everyone else.
Another example is this....If Ange wants to do WQ, she has to do the ontario natural show, even had she won the nationals in figure. There were a couple national level girls there last night, coming off nationals 2 weeks ago.
PS: sorry coco for thread jacking!

Dear Bench Press,
when we first met, I hated you so much. You made my little arms shake like wiggly little wormies. I could barely lift just your bar for 5 repsd unassisted. That was two years ago.
We have come along way in the last two years! We have had our Ups, and Downs... and up and down and up and down... The nature of our relationship has changed sometimes weekly! sometimes daily!! sometimes we would do the same thing for months!
I conquered you at 135 pounds for 5 reps!
I can do you close griped with quarters
30 pounds is the new 15 per side...
however, what you did to me last night was painful, rediculous and completely unfair!
one set 100 reps bar only no rest.
You have hurt me so, and I am not quite sure when ill be ready to resume our relationship
Love Dryvr
LEG DAY!!
(watch for continuation .. "Dear Squat rack" in tomorrow's edition!)
221 days!

100 reps...yikes! I feel your pain. the pump one can get from doing say 70% of your bodyweight for 60-70 reps is the worst feeling in bodybuilding aside from cramping up the day before a show.

so im kinda questioning my decision to have a two week Off Season.
My coach is very much into following diets 100%, and Im very good at it! I am however having a hard time giving up coffee right now! Im drinking it with a little skim milk... so it tastes like shit.. lol.. but its NOT on my diet. and Im doing it anyway.. I KNOW I have over 7 months... but I still feel a little guilty about it..
Training has been good. I feel good to have a program back!.. I am NOT impressed with having treadmill every day... and can't figure it out.. I weighed in at Nationals at 120 pounds and am currently at 127.. most of my work outs are high reps.. 4 sets of 25 squats to the floor... 3 sets of 50 leg press... I think my coach forgot that ive been lifting since 5 days afer Nationals!! lol... Im ready to lift heavy!
Personally life is still difficult. First time Im putting this "out there" but Leigh and I did not survive 2 National shows as a couple. We have broken up. Im not sure if she will be posting on this site anymore... maybe Ill have to get Canadabodybuilding.com written into our seperation aggreement... we were together 8 years. so it's a big change. I AM trying to push through this the same way i push through workouts... it's hard right now, but will get easier, and I know when all this part is done.. I will be able to present the BEST me to the world!! (that's what my brain is saying anyway! lol... in reality im a little stressed, losing some sleep -hence the coffee issue- and somewhat nervous about my future.. but shhhh don['t tell anyone!)
Today is mostly shoulders! excited about that! Tomorrow is "get all your dental work fixed before you do something rash like quit your job and lose your benifits" day!! so im getting all my dental work fixed before I ... well... you know!. no lift tomorrow! Posing starts again on Saturday!.. ill try and get a pic to show y'all the damage a jar of Peanutbutter and a breakup can do to a girl in 3 short weeks! ;)

first off, 7 pounds is NOTHING....even for someone your size. actually, most people who weighed in at 120 were probably 127 1 week out in the morning... (unless of course your weigh in weight was not even close to dehydrated and you actually dipped down to 110 or something.
Better guage would be to at least look at what you were weighing a week or 2 before the show. My guess is having only gained a couple of pounds, that is some pretty good discipline post show. I stayed a good 3-4 pounds up after my show right through summer. But since 2.5 weeks, I am up 18 pounds on top of that. Harder to stay away from bad foods when your both allowed!
My advice. don't start dieting for 7 months when you've only need a few weeks to get to where you need to be. Use this time to at least try to gain 1-2 pounds of muscle. Eat clean, but eat good. Coffee and skim milk isn't off the menu. Set weight goal and don't go over. perhaps for you that s 130-135. once you hit it, eat to maintain until its diet time (perhaps 12-16 weeks out).

well... another week, and i feel pretty good!
Diet is not 100%, but I had a quick visit with my coach and he told me that until the end of Oct... If I just give 100% to my workouts... and eat "decent most of the time" lol.. I will be ok!.. sips coffee with milk in it
I have been fighting the dreaded After-Contest-Cold. which SUCKS! and then had some dentist work done and had an allergic reaction to the latex mouth umbrella thinggy... so it's been a rough week! My "cardio" has consisted of walking/running/bike riding with the puppy... and I only got 4 lofts in.. so Im gonna go and fix both those situations right about how and head down to the gym and sweat this dang cold out!!
I kinda miss having someone to train with. At Elite there was always a floor full of lifters, and the trainers to push me if my ADD started getting the better of me lol... then weekends I always trained with Leigh. I don't know if maybe Im starting to associate going to the gym with "all I have lost" or not... and I like lifting once I get there... it's just I seem to be looking for other things to do.. like plaing that damed jewel popping game online for an hour instead of doing some abs and cardio...
.. well, no time like the present.

Grind it out. Don't be shocked if you go through all 5 stages of mourning in random order or that it takes you a while to get centred. The more you can stay productive and structured the easier it will be to deal with things.
You just finished dieting through 2 shows. Some body fat and extra calories are what you need to start lifting heavy again.

Well.. Im still plugging away!
I am NOT doing any cardio right now... just my doggie walking, which is like 1.5 hrs a day.. lol so I dont think i need any cardio on top of that!
My diet is about 75% good (which means about 90% good for most people!) I am still drinking coffee every day, and kinda fell of the waggon because of Tim Horton's Smile Cookies!.. but hell.. the money was going to Childrens hospital, so I really did it to help the kids! lol... My tendancy is to NOT eat.. rather than over eat... so ive been doing well... typically this is my day
5am- oats with 1 scoop protein, banana (or blueberries) and a little yogurt (tablespoon) and a coffee with milk!
9 am workout (been hitting the gym 5X a week, usually sun, mon wed fri sat and doing a more "traditional" split... but I find I really miss the 2X a week leg workouts)
11am- protein shake and doggie walk
noon- 6 oz chicken, broccoli, cup of br rice
2pm- Coffee with milk (and lately a smile cookie :S ) orange or banana
5pm 6 oz beef, green veg, br rice and 1 oz fat. (once in a while I sub potato for rice)
8- protein eggwhites banana br rice (sounds gross but I make a little pancake thing and its kinda good)
930- sometimes a shake before bed, sometimes I forget, sometimes about a half cup of nuts.
I haven't LOST any weight (which is good!) I havent GAINED any weight (which I am comfortable with) Im still between 125 and 128.. my energy feels good... I am not really supping with anything.. just taking CLA with every meal and Nitrix in the am and pre workout. I think Ill start taking creatine again... and glutamine... I liked feeling a little "fuller" and i think it was from Creatine! plus I notice im not as "thirsty" lately.. which is translating into not drinking enough water.. creatine makes me thirsty! lol
Im not making any huge gains... not really trying to!.. just trying to keep lifting and not lose too much of what I've built!
Still kinda sucks lifting alone.. and i miss the "team" at Elite. It was such a HUGE part of my life for over 2 years.. Sometimes the little old men at the city gym just don't motivate me! lol.. but there are a few guys there who lift pretty heavy, one who is shooting for Nationals.. so thats cool!
Anyway... I still have Naturals as a goal!

My diet is about 75% good (which means about 90% good for most people!)
You're diet is 125% good considering how far you're away from a contest. For normal people, you're diet is 300% good implying most normal people would NEVER eat that good even if you add 5 smile cookies to your example day.
You really shouldn't sweat it. Yes, this sport is very OCD, but for me this is a 6 month on 6 month off sport. (well, 6 months off meaning I don't have OCD for 6 months of the year - I still train hard and eat good. I just don't breath bodybuilding in the offseason.

Well.. something VERY INTERESTING happened this week!
I decided i LIKE working out!.. Who'd a thunk it!! lol
Thanks to Steve.. lol.. and a guy Tony from the city gym! (Tony is an icon...)... you guys reminded me that This is a hobby.. FOR FUN!! I had kinda forgotten about that. I was stressing about time in the gym, and really stressing about diet and getting my cardio in!! and becomming resentful of HAVING to do it!.. then I remembered, i don't have to!! I WANT To!!
.. it sounds over simplistic... but just switching my mindset from HAVE TO.. to WANT TO.. has made it fun again!!
I am NOT on a "plan" right now. Not working with any trainer or coach. I put together my own workouts! Following a clean diet! still feeling good! No weight change, can see veins in my arms and still have some visible abs... all in all.. I really LIKE how I look right now!
..I am NOT taking all out 6000calorie cheat days... they always made me feel sick, but I might take myself out for sushi today!! lol
I havent put too much thought into my diet.. Im not a very good cook... I have chicken, fish and beef always made... br rice, potato and some kind of green veg to go with it, and oats, yogurt banana and protein every AM... egg whites are still a staple, with low fat cheese, rice and salsa, like a pancake!!
I LIKE eating this way! My calories are WAY lower than they were when I was "bulking" last year... I would kile to improve my physique, and of course develop fuller muscles, which is what Im working on!.. Im not "actively" trying to change the makeup of my body too much..
Generally Im doing between 30-50 sets for each muscle group. Not SUPER heavy... 10 to 15 reps. I have noticed decline in my bench press weight, I dont know why! I think because at elite there was ALWAYS a spotter... plus Im kinda training for a bench press contest thing (fundraiser) and its high reps, so Ive been doing stupid 100 rep sets... and then when I add weight, Im gassed out lol...
A high point for me was doing deadlifts with plates for sets of 15!! I can go up!! I lost the weight belt in the divorce and need a new one and they are hard to find to fit a 25 inch waist! lol...

6 oz beef 1 cup rice, 1 cup broccoli
6 eggs plus 1 egg whote plus 1 oz cheese and 1/2 cup rice

the last meal was supposed to be chicken and rice, but my daughter ate my chicken breast and i didnt have time to make another after work.. so I did egg whites and eggs instead

Im super excited about these moves!! however, a little nervous as well. Im just over 20 weeks out from my first BODYBUILDING show!!.. it kinda hit me all at once..
i know Im not going to be the biggest one there... but I have faith my new coach will get me to the level conditioning I desire!

Looking good! There are numerous videos showing how to pose on youtube, DK is right, "relaxed" pose is the most important. I always try to pose in between sets because it helps improve overall physique, and you won't get the shakes as bad when you hold a tough pose.

Alrighty then....
so far, I am already noticing some differences between fitness training and bodybuilder training... for one thing, LIFTING HEAVY RULES!!! lol.. fitness training I was doing moderate to heavy weight, but usually only 3 sets aprox 15-25 reps...
I've switched that around and am doing 4-6 sets between 5-10 reps. (as soon as my form gets AWEFUL, i drop weight)
It's been fun! Ive had some recent strength gains.. I hope that translates into bigger muscles soon! lol.. my weight is holding steady around 130 lb (however Im sure Delt King is gonna mess that up pretty soon! ;) )
It's been hard for me to shift my thinking from "whole workouts" to Body specific training.
I am feeling good! WAY more energy than when I was doing fitness!.. mind you, im not doing any real cardio right now except for walking my doggie and minimal warmups at the gym!.. i think the 2 hours cardio a day for fitness was burning me out severely!
Im still very happy with how I look currently.. not putting on a tonne of fat thats hanging around!.. lol still can see my abs... a bit Of junk in the trunk.. but whatever.. I'll lose it!
I recently had a fitness chick tell me she wants to try BB one day so she can see how lean she can get!.. I was kinda shocked!.. I was like .. "NO!! It's about how big you can get!!" I think alot of ppl mistaken conditioning for bodybuilding!.. its kinda frustrating. I think the new "physique" division is custom make for me.. I will never have the deep full muscles of alot of the pro FBB's. lol.. but I really feel good about the decision to make the switch!
ok.. nap time LOL gotta grow!

19 weeks out today!... it seems really close! lol...
I've started with the Canadian Muscle Team!! Been on Delt King's diet for only about 4 days.. and i am NOT very good at cooking meat lol... so im pretty sure if i start dropping weight like crazy it's just mad cow or botchulism or somehting lol... (the package said cook 3 mins a side at low to med heat!!.. that equals RAW .. lol next one will be better!)
This week Ive been feeling like im not "doing enough"... I think without gymnastics 2 times a week and routine rehursal 2 times a week and an hour of cardio a day... I am definately not as "BUSY" with training... Ive been having some good lifts though! really concentrating on getting the most out of my time in the gym!
Taking the current Ms Manitoba to the gym with me once a week is awesome! (My BFF!!!) those are the best days! she's not training for anything right now... taking a year off to focus on a carreer move, but she's strong as sin.. and pushes me hard!!
Tomorrow will be the first day i work out with Leigh since we split... thats always a gut check for me! lol.. i feel strong compared to the old ladies at the city gym... we will see how it goes!

well>> ups and downs!
level of intensity went UP this week.... weight fell down.
the only thing I missed was one apple one day.. because Gabee the superdog ate it off the counter when I was in the shower, but whateves.. bad dog!
.. already had a warning to expect my food to increase :S
I am KINDA feeling confused by my workouts... I dont feel like im doing enough. I had a freind I know who has done some training and competing tell me I just feel like that because my old programs were so scattered and Overtrained... I think I need to get a more "solid" split... I dunno...
I went out last night to the ONE club in the city on the ONE night I go out where the ONE IBBF PRO Female Bodybuilder in Manitoba happens to be... And it was super cool to run into her, and nice to talk to her.. I feel like a flipping pip squeek!! An inch taller than me and her comp weight back in the day was 160 lbs.. Ill be lucky to hit the stage at 120!! It gets daunting sometimes... I KNOW Im not going to be standing up there competing against her.. or anyone even close to her physique at a novie show... But sometimes i think knowing any Pro's, or even alot of the National girls i know... makes me feel insecure about the whole thing. I dunno.. Keep plugging away, sticking to my laurels, eating my food, lifting heavy and work as hard as I can. I know beating those inner demons (insecurity) is the first WIN I have to achieve before getting up there and winning a show...
no real PR this week... 8 unassisted wide grip pull ups was a highlight lol...

so.. Quick update... I HAVE NOT LOST WEIGHT!!!.. which is good! lol not gaining alot.. very slow, pretty much hovering around 130 lbs.. really having no doubt ill make light weight! lol
I got caught up into listening to other ppls advice alot.. and i think I was over training.. but Delt King sent me a bit of a focus, and im starting it today.. it's ALOT less than what I was doing.. so im kinda nervous... but then again, my tendancy is to ever train...
ok my sexy guitar panties... but whatever... it's starting.. and im totally covering my ink for the competition
Your starting to grow....Muscle aint made overnight , but you keep it up and you'll be right where you want , your look great ( guitar ginch and all ) ...lol

AND.... shrinking!!
No cardio... (not even the under the covers kind mofo!!) and the weight loss is starting again... Told the Boss... looking at becomming a professional eater next week... oh well... I just cant keep weight on.
It has been brought to my attention by various sources that I over train the shit outta myself... so ive done VERY GOOD at following the routine the Boss set out for me this week.. I feel lazy and small and puny and really dont know what to do with myself for that extra half our to hour a day. Ill stick with it though.. even though its kinda making me nervous!!! everything in my brain says work harder and you will get better results and this idea of working LESS to get more is just hard to wrap my head around!
I know a lady doing Novice .. shes about an inch taller than me and sitting 50 pounds heavier! my only shot at not embarassing the shit outta myself is making lightweight! lol.. I wonder if i am mentally sabotaging myself knowing I have to make weightÉ.. you think thats possible? Oh well.. 17 weeks as of today. I got a bit more GROW time. getter get at er!

i try not to make excuses.. I do my best and accept that as enough.. BUT, the snow this week SCREWED ME!!
ive been stuck on the bus and extra hour to 3 hours a DAY.. No washroom.. so ive limited my water. ran out of food once.. missed 2 meals, Had a lid on a shake explode while shaking and lost half an after workout shake.. Stressed, pressed for time come home and get to do a few hours shovelling, which is damned CARDIO and in the end... Im down 2.5 pounds.
Ive SOMEHOW managed 5 workouts this week, however life causght up to me and i have NO clean laundry or dishes and REALLY need someone to clean my house!!!lol
anyway, even though I have a crap load of things to do... I slep 9.5 hours STRAIGHT last night!! lol and feel GREAT! today.. ready to get this shit done!!... sooooooo Shoulder day.. (somehow my routine got mixed up.. i had to do a shorter workout on weds.. ill get er back on track!)
Gym time!!!

Overtraining is so easy to do, especially when you've been used to a more intensify routine, you're pretty much starting over in some regards. Just eat when you're hungry and you'll grow! You have a pretty good bicep peak coming in there now and the legs are looking good lol..Stick with it GL
