The Hardest Sport in the World

"But in the end, you
...realize there is nothing more real than being a bodybuilder. No sport is
as physically and mentally draining and requires the same excruciating
effort and drive. Training and dieting for months on end for just one
moment of physical perfection are not for the timid or the weak of will.
So many men and women have tried it, but only the select few had the
courage and the drive to stick it out and make it their sport."

"So
the next time you wonder why bodybuilding is the hardest sport in the
world, remember this. Its not just about lifting weights, having fans,
or making the cover of a magazine. Its about strength of mind, of a
willpower that cannot be broken. It means having a spirit that cannot be
dampened. No matter what anyone says, you are truly an elite athlete.
You have become one with those special few who have inspired you and
forged a path you are now proud to follow. And from your example, other
brave souls will follow the path."

"Yes, bodybuilding is the hardest sport in the world - and its also the one you should be most proud to call your own."

The hardest sport in the world would be the one that you can not do :)

But I agree BB is a very hard mental sport and I would say that 90% of people that start off doing it never make it to the stage.

There are a ton of more difficult sports. Although this is completely subjective. Biathalon, for example, is much more difficult. Ironman competitions etc...

Most sports at an elite level require significant technique practice, strategy and tactics on top of strength, endurance, flexibility and other critical components.

Most elite athletes do everything a bodybuilder does plus practice and study plus the athletic genetics required of them go far beyond simply having excellent strength genetics.

.... For fun I'm going to pick two vastly different types of sports... Individual sports; Olympic WeightLifting or Gymnastics or Team Sports; ... Professional Hockey or Football.

Either way these are significantly more demanding than bodybuilding as they have all the requirements that bodybuilding has PLUS you need to be an athlete and master extremely complex physical and mental skills.

No sport requires you to get to a dangerously low bf % than bodybuilding . This alone is very taxing on the mind.
Sure golf can be a mental trip also , but in a very different way. ALL sports are different and hard in there own way.
I don't think that article is going in that direction I think it's more of a motivation thing for those who are going through it. So don't over analyze it :).

i dont think "hardest sport" is an accurate label. as mentioned i would think iron man, biathalon, gymnastics, tour de france etc are much harder.

however i dont think much compares to the COMMITMENT that bodybuilding involves if you are doing it at a competitive or elite level. it really is a 24/7/365 effort that could become very exhausting and mentally challenging.

id rather compete at something where you have to train like a dog or work like a maniac but be able to leave it at the gym/rink/field when i was done

I AM SURE IT IS A HARD SPORT, ONE CANNOT REALLY COMPARE IT TO ANY OTHER SPORT, THE COMPARISON MUST BE APPLES TO APPLES OR ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN / END THREAD

In the eyes of the beholder... no one can name anything 'the hardest' or name anyone 'the best athlete' (In ALL of sport) really...

The only way that would be possible is to have EVERY athlete do EVERY sport and AVERAGE their 'scores' - whatever that may be, end / thread x 2
