I know compounds can cause insomnia and people will often turn to sleeping pills in order to get a good night sleep. The intention seems good but they may lead to a worse problem. Read On......

Popping a pill might seem a small price to pay for a peaceful night's sleep. But beware of the long-term cost - those who pop sleeping pills are a third more likely to die prematurely than those who don't, says latest research.

The figure takes into account factors that can affect longevity, from social class and chronic health conditions to smoking and alcohol use. And, unlike previous research, it also recognises the effects of depression, reports the Daily Mail.

With around 10 million sleeping pill prescriptions in Britain and many more tablets sold over the counter, the findings have significant implications for the health and habits of the nation, says the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry.

Crucially, the study did not distinguish between those who were heavy users and those who only took them occasionally.

Researcher Genevieve Belleville of the Laval University in Quebec, Canada said: "These medications aren't candy and taking them is far from harmless."

Belleville analysed 12 years of data on more than 12,000 Canadians. When all other factors were equal, death rates were found to be significantly higher among sleeping pill users and those taking tablets to ease anxiety.

Pill takers were more likely to succumb to every type of illness, from parasites to cancer, she said.

Short term use to curb on-cycle insomnia will obviously have much less impact then chronic use. A lot of people take these EVERY NIGHT, its like smoking EVERY NIGHT, of course its not going to be good for you.

I bet if most of the people (normal people not on cycle) on these pills just shut off the tv and computer at a normal time they would not have these problems, and also limit the amount of stimulants. Name one thing that is good for you if abused, even the air we breath (oxygen) is killing us.

Longevity for longevity's sake is overrated anyway. Most of us running AAS are living hard for the present and probably won't have much desire to carry on once our bodies begin breaking down. Running zoppies or some such thing may bedevil mental clarity once you're older or you may not live to 93 instead of 87, but, for me, it's the quality of life NOW that matters. Doddering & drooling? I'll pass, thank-you.

the real fact is people today don't have good sleeping patterns. I've really changed mine over the last few years and the difference is huge. ever since electricity was invented and we were able to stay up until 1am watching tv has this problem occurred (i know there are other issues too)

- this guy I know complains about being tired, I asked what his nightly pattern is, normally has a coffee around 8 or 9 to "wind down" (he says caffeine doesn't effect him LOL) then watches tv until 1am and wakes up at 6... i wonder why he's tired (not to mention he drinks 5-6 cans of coke all day long)

Thanks! I hardly ever get referred to as "immature" any more.:D

What I mean is that as long as I live, I want to live as fully as possible, even take chances. I don't want "caution" to be my watchword. I helped take care of my daddy as he lingered on, slowly losing everything, over three years; he would often mumble that he wished he "knew how to die", until he even forgot how to say that. I don't want that. I hope for a sudden release, sort of in mid-step, if you know what I mean.
