It's been about 2 years since I finished my 5-month 80mg/day Accutane cycle(prescribed and supervised by a dermatologist).

Pro's:
- My acne is still dramatically less than it was, even when on cycle
- My hair doesn't get greasy if I miss a shower or two

Con's:
- endless dry lips still, requiring constant use of high-quality lip balms like ceralip or vichy (not using chapstick as it is known to make it worse)
- increased face/eye wrinkles from dry skin
- dryer skin all around, requiring showering with moisturizing soap
- absolute neccessity to moisturize my face after each wash
- increased occassional skin fungal problems

Just wondering if others have had similar permanent changes. This is some serious stuff, and people should know these possibilities before jumping in.

i have chronically dry lips. also dry facial skin after i shower. i use a light moisturizer. truthfully though i feel like if i stopped using moisturizer for a while id have dryish skin but that i would adapt eventually and be fine

If this was prescribed and supervised by your dermotoligist than so many sides at such severity shouldnt happen. accutane is drying out your sweat glands but maybe they had you on it for too long? the other issue is hydration. water is more important than ever for you my friend.

I've been off Accutance for almost 2 years now. I drink tons of water. Heavy sides are expected with Accutane and warned about for all new patients. I even had crippling joint pain while on but my dermatologist prescribed remedies for that and other skin related issues. I think the length of time is to impose permanent changes in the skin's oil glands, to have a lasting effect on acne.

Ya...your natural oils most be gone if your hair doesn't get greasy after missing a shower...I can like that smell! :)

I took accutane 6 years ago, and I have had all those changes. But the Pro's outweight the Con's. IMO, the dry lips are the worst side effect of accutane
