Howdy CBB, I got a simple question on meal replacement shakes. I currently eat about 5-6 small meals a day, 3 of which are actual food (steamed vegs, lean meats, lots of turkey slices, 1-2 slices of bread a day max, peanuyt butter, etc...) and the rest I drink a protein shake (40 g of protein ). Now, this eating regimen works great for me, I've lost about 38 pounds so far on it, mainly because I'm about 1000 calories under my required daily caloric value. No biggie, when I reach around 200 lbs, I'll up the caloric intake to a maintenance level and stop the weight loss :-)
Now my question is: how does this look as a meal replacement shake:

Calories 190
Total Fat (g) 2.5
Saturated Fat (g) 1.5
Trans Fat (g) 0
Cholesterol (mg) 10
Sodium (mg) 170
Total Carbohydrates (g) 38
Sugars (g) 31
Protein (g) 4
Calcium 15%
Caffeine (mg) 145

I know the sugar levels are a bit high for a single serving but I do cardio quite a bit so I burn it off. Also the caffeine levels are great for me, I need my daily high LOL!

Thanks again.

The main issue is the type of protein. Allergic reactions is a biggy and quality of the product is next. I recommend you do 4 days egg protein, 4 days goat protein, 4 days rice protein, 4 days whey and keep the carbs to 10 grams or lower and make sure it is fiber sourced carbs.

Whey choices
Paleo meal _ research this for a great rice and whey organic replacement
san infusion found at GNC
Biotest low carb grow
beverly international any protein is great
MD plus by di pasquale myosin is wickid
dorian yates pro peptide

Cool, thanks for that info. Yeah, I'm pretty lucky, I get no problems drinking milk straight up, no lactose problems at all. I've been eating the following proteins since I joined here: red meat, chicken, milk (whey, casein from cottage cheese) and veggies. I know that veggie protein is not a full protein, it needs to be converted to a full protein before your body can use it. Question about rice protein: I know that rice is quite high in carbs, do these rice protein products have high carb values or are they made low-carb? As well, I know muscletech nitro-tech is frowned upon by almost every bb forum but that is what I use and it contains a mix of whey concentrate, isolate and other forms of protein and I'm getting great results with it. Is this good as a protein mix?

That shake has only 4g but I already take in over 100+ grams a day of protein.

100 isn't that much. A good rule of thumb to follow is minimum 1g protein per lb of body weight. Personally I take in 250-300g a day. Obviously this may be harder depending on how low your calorie restriction is at the moment. However, when you're at the 200lb mark, and want to just maintain, the average person would be consuming 2500-3000cals per day. With only 100g protein that's leaving 2100-2600cals from carbs/fats.

That particular mrp kind of reminds me of a sports drink like gatorade. Really high in sugar carbs and not a whole lot else in it. Over half of it's fats are saturated, and there is only 4g of protein. I'd look at something else in my opinion. Check out cytosport's muscle milk or eas myoplex/myoplex light.

paleo rice protein has minimal carbs and high protein. Muscle tech spends more on advertising then research and production. Try the name brand SAn there product infusion you will love. Allergic reactions can be endless from eye twitches, runny nose, body fat gain, bloating, muscle loss, inflammation basically everyone will have a reaction if you overconsume anything. Rotate at least two protein products in a week and you will notice more results.

MuscleMilk FTW! I take that shizz everyday! After my workout I mix in some acai berry to get a few more carbs to restore lost glycogen.

Just got a shipment of Banana Cream and Cinnamon Bun that I'm picking up from the post office tomorrow. I've been living off of strawberry for 2 months which isn't my thing but still tastes INCREDIBLE. I can't wait to crack open the cinnamon bun.... mmmmm

Thanks all for the replies. Yeah, around 100 grams of protein is low for my weight range and I will up it to around 250 g once I reach my weight goal.
Come to think of it, I've been having some eyebrow twitches lately, like 1-2 times a week and they last around 15 mins. Real annoying, think it might be my protein intake?
