Any thoughts on this style of training?

Considering a switch for a while to freshen up my routine.

Open to hearing all comments and thoughts.

Thanks!

I know a few guys who are into this style of training. It might give you the mental change you need if you're burning out from more traditional styles of training. Good ol' periodization, lol. If you're carrying a lot of muscle mass be prepared to lose some size though the conditioning will remain. The incentive is that endurance goes up and bodyfat usually comes down. It's a good change, even if just for a short term regiment.

And if you start dressing down to shorts, video tape yourself on multiple cameras, and start buying Crossfit paraphernalia, don't. Cause that's just wrong.

It's a good program if you do it right. Most people don't and they get all injured and stuff. Be careful.

Ya I don't really know anything about it but am a little curious to try something different. Something a bit more challenging right now that (hopefully) won't break me more than I already am lol

Well I would wager that you are a bit of a competitive guy, and crossfit is very much about timed circuits. So with most people they rush through everything with less than good form just so they can say they took 4 seconds off of "Fran".
Don't do that. At least not at the beginning, make sure that when you do a sumo deadlift high pull that you don't bounce the weight and make sure that you are using your body properly.

The dude in this video who is doing the "good" and "bad" demonstrations is actually doing the "bad" and "bad" They are completely ignoring that his left shoulder isn't functioning properly and instead of fixing it they are just letting him work through it.

Which is my main problem with crossfit, a bunch of people who kind of know what they are doing teaching people who don't even know how their body is supposed to work.

its a excellent program. some are very hard where as others are pretty easy.
even with impecable form, its still very easy to get injured.
i was going this this past spring, and all the skipping eventually lead to a ankle injury. 230 pounds isnt meant to jump up and down 5000 times in a workout. lol

be prepared to sweat like hell and possibly spew your guts.

heres a excellent site for ya Nate if u wish to get into crossfit.

So there is no set program that you follow? It's like a deal of the day sort of thing?

there are some programs yes.but each day can be the same things u trained the day before. so there isnt legs, one day, arms the next and so on, each day it could be all legs and chest. this is what makes it a little more dangerous. as u train the crap out of a bodypart.

shoot me your email and i will forward u some of the routines that are named. ie. fran, rowing helen, the gooch to name a few

heres another site that i use sometimes
http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/excercise.html shows every exercise and how it is done.

http://www.titaniumcrossfit.blogspot.com/ this site posts a workout everyday.

I have a few buddies into it. I'm curious about it now too, but i'm not sure my back will be able to keep up. I dont think it's a "deal of the day" thing from what i hear anyway. It's not very cheap here and they require any new person joining too complete 6 private personal training sessions before you start the actual training.

Keep us updated if you do start, I'd like to hear what someone with experience training has to say regarding switching too crossfit training. Instead of what the fat friend joining the "new fad" tells me. :)

The front page wods are fairly stupid and a lot of the programming is best for making really hot women BUT... There are several groups who use Strength dominant crossfit variations that appear to be fairly kick ass.

Like anything else you need to do your leg work. It's not my cup of tea right now but the social aspects of it seem very appealing and the broad approach to fitness has merit.

Again random execution and the organizations political faggotry is crappo but the ideas could be very fun.

Nate you would do well in the strength aspect of crossfit. You got like 50lbs on me and I am in the top 2 percentile for most of the olympic lifts for crossfit athletes.

I personally found crossfit a little short, in my body part split days, I used to spend 1-2 hours a day in the gym, and found the transition to 20 minutes 3-4 days a week left me with too much spare time.

So I looked for something better, I tried SealFit. I DO NOT recommend it. It is a guaranteed way to lead to overtraining, especially for people over 200lbs. But it is great for conditioning.

I am now on Max Effort Black Box, basically it is an 3 day weights, 2 days cardio. Start off with an olympic lift, one day total body, one day upper, one day lower, then do a crossfit workout for conditioning. On cardio days its something like shuttle runs, sprints, of rowing sprints.

I can send you more info on this form of training of you want, just don't want to type everything out and bore people.

The main thing you have to ignore is the cult like attitude. I also modify some of their workouts for example I do strict pull ups, not the kipping ones as I find they hurt my shoulders.

The muscleups are a fun exercise, especially seing a big guy doing them.

As for injuries, personally never had any doing crossfit, but I am try to keep my form good. The two guys I train with have only had injuries due to muscular imbalances that they have, which we are working on.
